Jean Paul Droin

Jean-Paul Droin started working at the Estate in 1965 when he was 14 and retired in 2014, whereupon his son Benoît succeeded him after spending 15 years at his side.

At the Domaine Droin, each wine has its own identity and sincerely reflects its origin and thus displays the diversity of their 16 "climats" (plots). The diverse range of Burgundy white wines, comprised of 5 Bourgogne Grands Crus of Chablis (Chablis Grand Cru "Les Clos", Grand Cru "Grenouille", Grand Cru "Valmur", Grand Cru "Vaudésir" and Grand Cru "Blanchot") and 9 Chablis Premiers Crus (Chablis 1er Cru "Côte de Lechet", 1er Cru "Fourchaume", 1er Cru "Mont de Milieu", 1er Cru "Montée de Tonnerre", 1er Cru "Montmains", 1er Cru "Vaillons", 1er Cru "Vaucoupin", 1er Cru "Vaulorent", 1er Cru "Vosgros") is impressive, leaving one with a large choice. This is not forgetting their Petit Chablis (1.85 ha) and the magnificent Chablis village (9.3 Ha). The wines are all perfectly vinified. Vigorous, the Droin Petit Chablis is concentrated and lively. The Droin Chablis 1er Cru "Vaillons" is round and tender with a delicate bitterness in the finish. Large in body, salty and textured, the Droin Chablis 1er Cru "Montmains" is lively and nuanced. The Droin Chablis 1er Cru "Mont de Milieu" is more classically floral and lemony yet captivating and long in mouth. The Droin Chablis 1er Cru "Montée de Tonnerre" is complex, intense and honest with a radiant finish. As for the Droin Chablis Grands Crus we can recommend without reserve the trinity of Chablis Grand Cru : "Les Clos", rich in dry extract, of sunny disposition, concentrated and harmonious with notes of fennel, or the salty power, minty freshness and intensity of the Chablis Grand Cru "Valmur", or finally the power and complexity of the Chablis Grand Cru "Grenouilles" with its fine nose of chlorophylle and preserved lemon, a wine of depth and body with an ageing potential well beyond 15 years. Don't forget the best years of Chablis :  1985, 1989, 1990, 1996, 1999, 2002, 2005, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014. The Chablis wines of the Domaine Droin are consistently well noted by international critics, yet remain reasonably priced, which won't ruin the pleasure or wallet of wine lovers.
