The wines of Château Yvonne: organic wines from Saumur and Saumur Champigny in the Loire.
Château YVONNE is located in Parnay and the estate owes its name to Yvonne and Jean-François Lamunière who, in 1997, purchased the estate and restored a vineyard that had been left abandoned; for 10 years, Françoise Foucault (wife of Charlie Foucault of Clos Rougeard) made the wines at Château Yvonne, until it was acquired by Mathieu Vallée in 2007.

The vineyard of Château Yvonne comprised only 5 hectares at the time, but it had already been farmed organically since 1998, and it was certified Organic in 2007. Today, the vineyard of Château Yvonne extends over 11 hectares (8 ha of Loire red wines and 3 ha of Loire whites), spread across 28 plots of Cabernet Franc and Chenin. Located between the communes of Parnay and Montsoreau, the vineyard of Château Yvonne consists exclusively of Chenin (Blanc) and Cabernet Franc (Rouge), planted on a soil composed of lacustrine limestone. In the cellar, which is housed in old troglodyte caves, the work aims to be as non-interventionist as possible. Harvests are done by hand, barrel ageing is long and the wines are neither fined nor filtered. Among the red wines, the Château Yvonne La Folie cuvée is produced from the plots of Clos Lintier, des Chalonges and des Pierres Blanches, themselves located in the commune of Champigny. "La Folie" from Château Yvonne is a Cabernet Franc that was vinified for 4 weeks in concrete tanks with indigenous yeasts. After malolactic fermentation, the ageing takes place in large wooden casks for 12 months. Seeking finesse and freshness, this "La Folie" cuvée exhales aromas of black fruits, a violet-hued robe and a fleshy palate with silky tannins and flavours of strawberry, raspberry and cherry. With an ageing potential of approximately 5 years, this wine is rather intended to be enjoyed for its fruit, but it is advisable to decant it before tasting. The Saumur Champigny 2018 from Château Yvonne offers a first nose marked by ripe black fruits such as Burlat cherry, with notes of vanilla. On the palate, one finds a structured and full wine with elegant tannins that are already well developed, but its solid structure gives it an excellent ageing potential. The Château Yvonne Saumur blanc "Gory" cuvée is a sumptuous, ripe and indulgent Chenin, with yellow fruits and candied citrus, which reveals behind its very fruity aromatic bouquet a full and fleshy yet perfectly balanced palate. The whole is thoroughbred and elegant, with a salinity that gives energy to the finish, and there is no doubt that it will be able to blossom over 5 to 7 years. It is worth noting that the estate has been following a biodynamic approach since 2012, which can only reinforce the criteria of meticulous care brought to the entire production of Château Yvonne.
