History of Domaine Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey

The history of Domaine Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey begins in 2001, when Pierre-Yves Colin, eldest son of the famous winemaker Marc Colin, and Caroline Morey, daughter of Jean-Marc Morey, another pillar of Burgundian viticulture, joined forces to create a négociant business. Pierre-Yves, after refining his skills at the Marc Colin family estate from 1994 to 2005, decided to strike out on his own. In 2005, he recovered 6 hectares of family vines in Saint-Aubin and Chassagne-Montrachet, marking the true launch of the estate. In parallel, Caroline Morey, heir to 7 hectares of her father's vines in 2014, also developed her own production under her name, while sharing her husband's philosophy and cellar.

From its beginnings, the estate established itself as a rising star of Burgundy, thanks to wines that combine intensity, finesse and faithful expression of terroirs. Today, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey manages 13 hectares, including 5.35 hectares owned and 3 hectares leased, supplemented by grape purchases representing approximately one-third of production. With their sons, Mathis and Clément, now involved, the family perpetuates a winemaking tradition anchored in excellence, while innovating to meet modern challenges, such as combating premature oxidation of wines.

Terroirs and Vineyards of Domaine Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey

Domaine Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey derives its renown from its parcels located on exceptional terroirs of the Côte de Beaune. The estate's 13 hectares extend over the prestigious appellations of Chassagne-Montrachet, Saint-Aubin, Puligny-Montrachet, Meursault and Santenay. Among the estate's jewels are emblematic parcels such as Chassagne-Montrachet Les Caillerets (0.2 ha, planted in 1950), Les Chenevottes (0.4 ha, planted in 1960) and Saint-Aubin En Remilly (0.65 ha, planted in 1975). Some vines, sometimes dating from 1900, give the wines unique intensity and complexity.

The estate adopts an environmentally respectful approach, with practices close to organic viticulture. Soils are worked or grassed, particularly on the steepest parcels, to preserve vineyard health. Yields are controlled by rigorous green pruning, and dead vines are replaced through massal selection, ensuring quality and sustainability of plants. Each vintage aims for perfect balance between freshness and optimal maturity, allowing grapes to fully reveal the potential of their terroirs. This philosophy makes the wines of Domaine Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey incomparable ambassadors of Burgundy.

Vinifications at Domaine Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey

Vinification at Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is a model of precision and minimalism, designed to let the purity of terroirs express itself. White grapes, mainly Chardonnay (92% of production), are pressed as whole clusters at higher pressure than average (about 2 bars), without crushing, to extract juices of great finesse. Fermentations occur with indigenous yeasts in 350-liter barrels, including 30% new wood (50% for Bâtard-Montrachet). The use of demi-muids, larger than traditional 228-liter barrels, limits the impact of wood, thus preserving the freshness and energy of the wines.

Aging, lasting 15 to 20 months depending on the crus, is done without bâtonnage, allowing prolonged contact with lees to enrich the texture and complexity of the wines. The cellar, kept at low temperature, promotes slow malolactic fermentation, completed 8 to 9 months after harvest. Wines are bottled without filtration, with large-diameter natural cork stoppers (55 x 25 mm) and sealed with wax for optimal protection against oxidation. This meticulous approach guarantees wines of exceptional purity, with vibrant minerality and refreshing acidity.
