History of Maison Roche de Bellene

The history of Maison Roche de Bellene begins with Nicolas Potel, an emblematic figure of the Burgundy wine region. Coming from a family of passionate winemakers, he inherited the expertise of his father, Gérard Potel, and honed his experience in the most prestigious wine estates worldwide. After stays in Australia, California, and Burgundy, Nicolas perfected his approach and founded Maison Nicolas Potel in 1997, specializing in the vinification of Grand Crus.

In 2008, after leaving Maison Nicolas Potel, he created Maison Roche de Bellene with the ambition of offering haute couture wines from exceptional terroirs. Through solid partnerships with winegrowers respecting organic or sustainable practices, the house quickly established itself on the international scene. Today, Roche de Bellene distributes its cuvées in over 50 countries and enjoys worldwide recognition.

Terroirs and Vineyards of Maison Roche de Bellene

Maison Roche de Bellene takes pride in working with old vines, at least 40 years old, to obtain unique aromatic concentration. These vineyards, located in prestigious appellations of the Côte d'Or, cover varied climats ranging from the Côte de Beaune to the Côte de Nuits.

The selected parcels benefit from soils rich in limestone and clay, giving the wines remarkable minerality and elegance. Through environmentally respectful viticulture, including organic and biodynamic practices, each wine faithfully expresses the character of its terroir. Nicolas Potel and his team work closely with winegrowers to optimize grape maturity, limiting yields to ensure optimal quality.

Vinifications of Maison Roche de Bellene

Maison Roche de Bellene's winemaking approach is based on minimalist vinification, aimed at preserving the pure expression of the fruit and terroir. The grapes are harvested manually and transported in small crates to preserve their integrity. After meticulous sorting, they are vinified with precision using methods combining tradition and innovation.

Gentle pressing: use of vertical presses for delicate juice extraction.

Natural fermentation: indigenous yeasts favored to express the identity of the terroir.

Careful aging: maturation in 500-liter French oak barrels, allowing harmonious aging.

Moderate use of sulfur: to preserve the purity of aromas and ensure long aging.

Nicolas Potel's objective is to craft elegant, structured, and balanced wines, offering a beautiful expression of Burgundian Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
