All Clos de la Roche Grand Cru wines in Burgundy
Clos de la Roche, located in Morey-Saint-Denis in the Côte de Nuits, is an emblematic Grand Cru of Burgundy, classified Grand Cru since 1936. The vineyard, dedicated exclusively to Pinot Noir-based red wines, extends over some 16.9 hectares, encompassing lieux-dits such as Clos de la Roche, Monts-Luisants Bas and Les Mochamps, as well as parcels such as Les Fremières and Les Chenevery. Its unique terroir, characterized by Middle Jurassic limestone soils rich in marl and boulders, rests on a hard limestone substrate with a fine layer of soil. This soil gives Clos de la Roche wines a powerful tannic structure, marked minerality and complex aromas: red fruits (cherry), black fruits (blackcurrant), floral notes (violet), sweet spices and hints of truffle as they age. With an average annual production of 589 hectolitres, or around 78,530 bottles, this Grand Cru offers exceptional ageing potential, often between 15 and 30 years, revealing incomparable finesse and elegance in great vintages. Compared to Clos Saint-Denis, Clos de la Roche is distinguished by its robustness and concentration, while remaining true to the elegance of Morey-Saint-Denis wines. Some 30 estates, including Ponsot, Dujac and Rousseau, farm this terroir.
