Wine 2016 Bourgogne

The 2016 vintage remains in Burgundy the one marked by a devastating late-April frost that decimated yields across several areas (Chablis and part of the Côte de Beaune, the Mâconnais), followed by a wet, mildew-prone spring, then a hot summer and a radiant end to the season. For the grapes that were spared, the success is outstanding. The reds (Pinot Noir) shine through their classicism, freshness and purity — elegant and balanced, with superb expressions from the Côte de Nuits (Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny, Gevrey-Chambertin). The whites (Chardonnay) reveal themselves as precise and tense, from Meursault to Puligny-Montrachet, with Chablis having produced only tiny volumes. The ageing potential is very good. Fresher and more distinguished than the fleshy 2015 that precedes it, the 2016 is opening up gracefully today while still holding beautiful reserves.
