Wine 2012 Bourgogne

The 2012 vintage will remain in Burgundy the one of a minuscule harvest wrested from a gruelling season: a cold, wet spring, disastrous flowering (coulure and millerandage), hail in the Côte de Beaune and Chablis, then mildew pressure, before a hot, dry summer saved the crop. The reds (Pinot Noir) emerge surprisingly successful, dense, ripe and structured, endowed with genuine depth, notably in the Côte de Nuits (Gevrey-Chambertin, Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny). The whites (Chardonnay) are more heterogeneous, sometimes diminished by hail in the Côte de Beaune and Chablis, but convincing at their best. Endowed with fine ageing potential for the reds, the 2012 sits between the tender 2011 and the distinguished 2013: its reds are today entering a fine phase, while still holding reserves.
