Morgane Turlier

Wines from Domaine Morgane Turlier: buy at the best price

Morgane Turlier is one of the most promising and captivating winemakers in the Jura today. Based in La Chapelle-sur-Furieuse, in the northern part of the Jura vineyard, she cultivates approximately two hectares of micro-plots spread across several villages, and has been producing natural wines of remarkable sincerity and freshness since 2016. Trained under Etienne Thiebaud of Domaine des Cavarodes, she continues a sensitive approach that is radically respectful of living nature: animal traction, certified Nature et Progrès agrobiology, and no inputs in the cellar. Her cuvées, classified as Vin de France, are produced in very small quantities, highly sought after, and express with great precision the diversity of the Jura terroirs.

History of the Morgane Turlier estate

Morgane Turlier is not originally from the Jura, but she settled there with deep conviction and a solid training. It was at the Domaine des Cavarodes, under the guidance of Etienne Thiebaud, a recognised natural winemaker in the Arbois region, that she forged her vision of wine: absolute respect for the soil, the grape and all living things, with the conviction that the best wine is the one that has not been corrected. She launched her own project in 2016, on just over one and a half hectares, while continuing to work alongside Etienne Thiebaud to ensure her livelihood. It was not until 2021, when her vineyard reached two hectares, that the volumes produced allowed her to live fully from her passion.

Her estate now extends over approximately two hectares of vines, spread across micro-plots in several villages in the northern Jura: La Chapelle-sur-Furieuse, Marnoz, Chamoz, Cramans and Buffard. Her cellar, set up within the framework of a collective and solidarity-based project in La Chapelle-sur-Furieuse, reflects her spirit: humble, communal, focused on the essential. Morgane is now cited among the most talented female winemakers of her generation in the Jura.

Terroirs and Vines of the Morgane Turlier estate

Morgane Turlier's plots are scattered across several communes in the northern Jura, between La Chapelle-sur-Furieuse, Marnoz, Chamoz, Cramans and Buffard, about ten kilometres from Arbois, between Lons-le-Saunier and Besançon. The soils are mainly composed of marls and limestone, typical of the Jura hillsides, which give the wines a saline minerality and a beautiful tension. Each plot has its own geological identity and expresses a distinct character, which justifies the range of single-plot cuvées.

The grape varieties cultivated are those of traditional Jura: Chardonnay and Savagnin for the whites, Trousseau and Poulsard for the reds, as well as a few ancient hybrid varieties on certain old vines. The vineyard is managed through agroecology and certified Nature et Progrès, without any chemical fertilisers or herbicides. The soil is worked entirely with the help of two Comtois mares, which allow for a gentle tilling that is respectful of the micro-organisms present in the Jurassic marly-limestone soils.

Winemaking at the Morgane Turlier estate

Morgane Turlier's cellar philosophy is radically natural and minimally interventionist: she adds nothing and removes nothing. Fermentations are conducted with indigenous yeasts alone, without any additives, without added sulphur, without fining or filtration. The whites are pressed directly as whole clusters, then aged in old oak barrels for a variable period depending on the cuvée, sometimes two years for the Savagnin. The reds are vinified after partial or total destemming, with skin maceration and ageing in oak barrels for twelve to nine months depending on the cuvée. Bottling is manual, without any additions.

Morgane's approach in the cellar is one of accompaniment: guiding the grape without forcing it, allowing the terroir to express itself freely, and intervening only when strictly necessary. This respect for the fruit and the place gives her wines a very characteristic aromatic purity and freshness, carried by a lively natural acidity and a deep minerality. Morgane's wines are alive, expressive and endowed with a beautiful ageing potential despite their apparent lightness.

The cuvées of the Morgane Turlier estate

Blanc de Chamoz (Savagnin): An emblematic white cuvée from the Chamoz plot, made from 100% Savagnin. The harvest is manual, the pressing direct as whole clusters, and the vinification is carried out on indigenous yeasts in an ouillé style. The wine is then aged for two years in old oak barrels, without sulphur, without fining or filtration. It develops aromas of candied lemon, dried flowers, hazelnut and a pronounced saline minerality. A wine of great precision, taut and long on the palate.

Savagnin de Chamoz: A variation on the same Chamoz plot, this Savagnin can express, depending on the vintage, a slightly different profile from the Blanc de Chamoz, sometimes with more amplitude or a distinct ageing process. A dry, pure and mineral white, with a saline and persistent finish characteristic of Jura Savagnin worked in a natural style.

Paul et Serge: White cuvée from a blend of Chardonnay and Savagnin sourced from micro-plots of the vineyard, aged in old barrels. This wine embodies the meeting between the roundness of Chardonnay and the tension of Jura Savagnin. On the palate, it stands out for its rich and enveloping texture, its aromatic precision and its beautiful saline length. A structured and complex cuvée, appreciated by lovers of great natural whites from the Jura.

La Vigne aux Loups: Red cuvée from a blend of Trousseau and Poulsard, sourced from old vines located near Morgane's cellar at La Chapelle-sur-Furieuse. The grapes are destemmed, co-fermented on the skins for approximately one month, then aged nine months in old oak barrels. No added sulphur, no filtration. The wine presents a luminous cherry colour, a nose of fresh red fruits, light spices and flowers, with a juicy palate, a lively acidity and a beautiful freshness on the finish.

La Miotée: An atypical and singular red cuvée, from a blend of Trousseau, Poulsard and ancient hybrid grape varieties, co-planted on an old plot. Vinified on indigenous yeasts for around thirty days, aged twelve months in oak barrels, bottled without sulphur or filtration. This wine of character reveals a complex aromatic palette, blending small red fruits, wild spices and an earthy touch characteristic of ancient hybrid varieties. A winemaker's cuvée, authentic and unclassifiable.

Pangée: Red cuvée from Trousseau and other Jura red grape varieties, aged approximately seven months in oak barrels, then bottled without filtration and without sulphur. Pangée expresses notes of ripe cherry, pepper and undergrowth with a light structure and a fluid, easy-drinking texture. A convivial cuvée, to be shared with friends over a fine red meat or a platter of Jura cheeses.

Trousseau en Vignole: A single-plot red cuvée from pure Trousseau, an emblematic and demanding Jura grape variety. This wine expresses all the typicity of Jura Trousseau: a deep ruby robe, aromas of black cherry, spices and liquorice, a full-bodied and structured palate with fine tannins and a long, spiced finish. Aged in barrels without additives, it has a beautiful ageing potential.
