Since 2010, the duo has crafted cuvées classified under the Vin de France appellation, vinified without additives, aged at length in barrels, and bottled without fining or filtration. History of the Allante Boulanger estate

The Allante Boulanger estate takes its name from its two founders: Christian Allante and Matthieu Boulanger. The two men met and honed their expertise within the prestigious Domaine Labet in Rotalier, one of the most influential and respected estates in the Jura. After more than fifteen years working alongside the Labet family, mastering the plot-by-plot approach, biodynamics and natural winemaking, they decided to create their own project, initially for their personal consumption. What began as a personal and passionate adventure quickly transformed into a recognised estate, whose cuvées now attract the interest of natural wine enthusiasts from around the world.

Patiently, Christian and Matthieu buy and lease plots as opportunities arise, sometimes recovering historic abandoned vines, as in Gizia where they cleared ancient vineyards that had been overtaken by the forest. They also took over a plot from Jura legend Jean-François Ganevat in the village of Maynal. Each has his own cellar: Christian in Rotalier, Matthieu in Gizia. Since 2010, the estate has regularly produced white and red cuvées that stand out for their purity and tension.

Terroirs and Vines of the Allante Boulanger estate

The Allante Boulanger vineyard extends over approximately 3.2 hectares, spread across several emblematic lieu-dits in the southern Jura: two plots in Rotalier (La Chèvre and Pataratte), one in Maynal, and two in Gizia, at altitudes ranging between 250 and 450 metres. The soils are mainly composed of grey and blue marls, limestone and foliated slates locally known as "carton", typical of the Gizia area. These complex soils give the wines a pronounced saline minerality and a beautiful tension on the palate. The vines, some over 90 years old, come from massal selections and are cultivated according to the principles of biodynamics.

The grape varieties cultivated are particularly rich and diverse: Savagnin and Chardonnay for the whites, Poulsard, Trousseau, Gamay, Pinot noir and Pineau d'Aunis for the reds. The estate's great originality lies in the presence of Petit Béclan, a virtually extinct Jura red grape variety, which they have interplanted on a sloping plot in Gizia. This rare variety, with its small, thick-skinned clusters, brings a unique wild and rustic touch to their red blends.

Winemaking at the Allante Boulanger estate

At Allante Boulanger, the winemaking philosophy rests entirely on respect for the fruit and the terroir: no additives, spontaneous fermentations using only indigenous yeasts, without the addition of sulphur. The whites are pressed as whole clusters, with a slow and gentle pressing to preserve aromatic finesse. The reds, for their part, are hand-destemmed before co-fermentation. Ageing takes place exclusively in old barrels of various sizes, for an often lengthy period that allows the wines to develop their complexity and depth. Bottling is carried out by hand, without fining or filtration.

Christian vinifies in his cellar in Rotalier, Matthieu in his in Gizia: each cuvée thus reflects the precise identity of its plot of origin and its winemaker. This dual geographical and human anchoring gives the estate a remarkable richness of styles, from fine and saline whites to full-bodied and fruity reds, including atypical blends that surprise and seduce the most discerning enthusiasts.

The cuvées of the Allante Boulanger estate

Savagnin: A white cuvée from plots planted on grey marls, the Allante Boulanger Savagnin is aged at length in old barrels, developing aromas of dried herbs, citrus zest, subtle spices and a deep minerality. On the palate, the wine is straight, taut and saline, with a long and vibrant finish. One of the most sought-after expressions of Jura Savagnin in a natural style.

Pataratte Chardonnay: From the Pataratte plot in Rotalier, this Chardonnay white comes from vines over 70 years old planted on calcareous marls. Slowly pressed as whole clusters and aged in barrels, it presents a luminous golden robe, a nose of white apple, delicate flowers, lemon and wet stone. The palate is elegant and saline, with great straightforwardness.

La Barde: White cuvée from the prestigious lieu-dit La Bardette, in the Sud-Revermont area. The 90-year-old vines are planted on a thin layer of red clay resting on hard limestone scattered with marine fossils. The blend of Savagnin and Chardonnay, aged 24 months in 228-litre barrels, yields a powerful, mineral, deep wine with a long and spiced finish.

La Vigne au Daim: White cuvée from a 45-year-old Chardonnay plot in Gizia, planted on grey marls and foliated slates at approximately 450 metres altitude. Pressed directly and aged 24 months in barrels of various sizes, this wine expresses a remarkable tension, with a lively acidity and a saline minerality characteristic of the local schists. Its name evokes the numerous deer that visit the plot.

Sous Poids: A white cuvée of great personality, from plots located between Rotalier and Gizia, aged at length in barrels. It unfolds aromas of candied citrus, hazelnut and dried flowers, with an ample palate and a beautiful energy. A wine for ageing, sought after by collectors for its capacity to develop over time.

Cuvée V: A confidential white cuvée whose contours vary according to the vintage, Cuvée V reflects the creativity and freedom of expression of Christian and Matthieu. A blend of the estate's white grape varieties, it stands out for its freshness, aromatic clarity and taut texture. Produced in very small quantities.

Cuvée V Phantome: An even rarer variant of the Cuvée V, the Phantome is a selection from specific plots or barrels, bottled in tiny quantity. It represents the quintessence of the estate's artisanal approach, with increased complexity and depth, for the most passionate natural wine enthusiasts from the Jura.

Phenomaynal: Cuvée from the plot taken over from Jean-François Ganevat in the village of Maynal. This wine, white or red depending on the vintage, carries within it the heritage of one of the most emblematic terroirs of the Jura, revisited with the sensitivity unique to Allante Boulanger. A tribute cuvée, rare and precious.

Poulsard: A light and delicate red from the emblematic Jura grape variety, the Allante Boulanger Poulsard is hand-destemmed and vinified without additives. It presents a clear, translucent colour and a nose of redcurrant, wild strawberry and gentle spices. On the palate, the texture is fluid, the acidity lively, the finish fresh and easy-drinking. A red of immediate pleasure and authenticity.

Trousseau: From the Pataratte plot in Rotalier, planted with 70-year-old old Trousseau vines including the precious "à la dame" cultivar. This red presents more structure and depth than the Poulsard, with aromas of black cherry, spices and undergrowth, a beautiful acidity and silky tannins. Aged in barrels, it gains in complexity with the years.

Pataratte Gamay: Red cuvée from Gamay planted on the Pataratte plot in Rotalier. Gamay, a less classic Jura grape variety, produces here a fruity, lively wine with aromas of fresh red fruits and light spices. Vinified without sulphur and aged in barrels, it expresses a marly terroir with indulgence and frankness.

Pineau d'Aunis: Cuvée from Pineau d'Aunis, a Poitevin grape variety planted by the duo on their Gizia plots. Rare in the Jura, this grape variety produces a red wine with very distinctive peppery and floral aromas, with a light, airy palate and a beautiful freshness. A cuvée that reflects the estate's spirit of exploration and boldness.

Amalgamé: Red cuvée from the Vigne au Daim plot in Gizia, co-fermenting Petit Béclan, Gamay, Poulsard, Trousseau and Pinot noir, all hand-destemmed. Aged 12 months in 300-litre barrels, this atypical blend reveals a dense and fresh structure, ripe red and black fruits, a chewy acidity and a deep minerality. Petit Béclan, a nearly extinct grape variety, brings an absolutely unique wild and rustic touch. A cult wine for natural wine enthusiasts from the Jura.

La Chèvre: Cuvée from 90-year-old vines perched at the top of a ridge in Rotalier. White or red depending on the vintage, La Chèvre expresses all the verticality and minerality of this high-altitude terroir, with a remarkable tension and length. Produced in very small quantities from old massal-selection vines, it is one of the purest and most authentic expressions of the estate.
