Wines from the Hospices de Nuits: buy at the best price
At the heart of the Côte de Nuits, in Burgundy, the Domaine des Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges embodies one of the oldest and most prestigious winemaking traditions in France. Founded around 1270, two centuries before its famous neighbour in Beaune, this charitable estate of approximately 12.4 hectares has been built entirely from donations and bequests since 1633. It comprises eight village plots and nine premier crus under the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation, complemented by a plot in Gevrey-Chambertin. Under the direction of estate manager Jean-Marc Moron, it produces 19 different cuvées each year, including the mythical monopole des Didiers, the great premier crus Les Saint-Georges, Les Boudots, Les Vaucrains, and a rare white wine, Les Terres Blanches. The entire production is sold each second Sunday of March at auction at the Château du Clos de Vougeot, for the benefit of the Hospices Civils de Beaune.
