Wines from Domaine Forey: buy at the best price

The Domaine Forey père et fils is located in Vosne Romanée and has existed for 4 generations (François then Henri succeeded one another at the helm, followed by Jean and now Régis Forey). This estate boasts a fine heritage of 8 ha of vines, principally in the Vosne Romanée and Nuits Saint Georges appellations, and extending to the Grand Cru Clos Vougeot. Within the Vosne territory there is a splendid plot of Vosne Romanée 1er Cru les Gaudichots, which borders the Grand Cru La Tâche and could arguably have been incorporated into it (here, the estate's parcel expanded from 0.1 ha to 0.3 ha thanks to a new acquisition in 2008, increasing production to approximately 5 barrels). Régis Forey also produces a Vosne Romanée 1er cru les Beaumonts, located just above the famous Richebourg, whose kinship can be discerned in great vintages such as 2005, 2010, 2015 and 2016.

In the commune of Flagey-Echezeaux, Domaine Forey owns vines in the Grand Cru appellation Echezeaux and produces a wine of solid constitution, which improves with age, allowing it to integrate its oak ageing and soften its tannins somewhat, which are a little rough in their youth. The Clos de Vougeot has substance and density, and softens after 8 to 10 years to give way to a rather suave and delicate wine. In the Nuits Saint Georges appellation, the estate offers 2 Premiers Crus, including an excellent Nuits St Georges les Saint-Georges which appears to be the most accomplished in the range and could also lay claim to Grand Cru status should the St Georges be promoted to Grand Cru within the appellation, as a reclassification dossier is currently under review. The Nuits St Georges 1er Cru les Perrières is of less powerful constitution and more sensitive to the influence of vintages. Finally, the Domaine Forey range is completed by the solid Nuits St Georges village, Vosne Romanée village, as well as Morey Saint Denis village, all three capable of ageing for several years. The value for money here is very interesting, but the key to the wines of this estate lies in their ageing capacity, and it is therefore advisable to give them a little time (5 to 10 years) before drinking them, or risk missing out on their expressive potential.
