Domaine du Coulet is located in Cornas in Ardèche, in the northern Rhône Valley, and Mathieu Barret took over the family estate in 1998 at just 23 years of age. Since then, and in parallel, he has developed a négociant activity that allows him to broaden the range of wines he can offer his loyal clientele. Domaine du Coulet has a vineyard of 18 ha, of which only 3.3 ha are in Rhône blanc. It should be noted that with nearly 12 ha in the Cornas appellation alone, Domaine du Coulet single-handedly accounts for almost 8% of the entirety of this tightly defined appellation.

The diversity of its Cornas parcels allows the winemaker to produce several cuvées, all corresponding to specific lieu-dits, whose blend reflects his vision of the terroir. Thus, the Domaine du Coulet is spread across different terroirs such as les Arlettes, le Coulet, la Patronne, le Serre, and also has some vines in the climats les Eygas, la Geynale, Mazards and Reynard. On the renowned terroirs of Cornas, Mathieu Barret cultivates his vineyard with the utmost respect for the terroir and the vine, according to the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture. With minimal intervention, Mathieu Barret produces well-controlled wines at Domaine du Coulet, with light extraction and very attractive fruit. These cuvées have a distinctive style, where power does not necessarily mean harshness. The aging takes place in 400 to 500L barrels or in foudre, allowing the wine to breathe well without being overly marked by the wood. Since 2006, Domaine du Coulet has also been equipped with ovoid concrete tanks, whose essential contribution is preserving the wine's freshness while respecting the purity of the fruit. The range of wines produced by Domaine du Coulet includes the following cuvées: Cornas Brise Cailloux, Cornas La Géniale Patronne, Cornas Billes Noires, and Cornas Ogre (produced only in certain vintages, previously produced in magnum format under the name "Gore"). Two cuvées of Cotes du Rhone wines: Brises Cailloux in white wine (Marsanne, Roussanne, Viognier) and the red Rhone cuvée No Wine's Land. The Cornas Brise Cailloux is a wine focused on acidity and minerality, aromatic, very spicy, and remarkably drinkable. The Cornas Billes Noires is highly concentrated and austere in its youth, the minerality of its gore terroir expressing itself in all its length. The Cornas Ogre has a highly evolving bouquet in the glass with notes of spices, licorice, smoke and candied dark fruits, with strong granitic mineral expression and velvety texture on the palate. Congratulations to Mathieu Barret for the wines of Domaine du Coulet, reserved for great Syrah enthusiasts.
