The Domaine A. et P. de Villaine, established in Bouzeron, the first village of the Côte Chalonnaise south of Beaune, is one of the essential references in Burgundy wines. Founded in 1971 by Aubert and Pamela de Villaine (Aubert also being the historic co-manager of the legendary Domaine de la Romanée-Conti), it is today led by their nephew Pierre de Benoist since 2001. Spanning nearly 30 hectares cultivated under certified organic farming and biodynamics, this exceptional estate elevates three emblematic grape varieties (golden Aligoté, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir) through cuvées of a purity, minerality and elegance celebrated by critics worldwide.

The entire De Villaine estate has been converted to organic agriculture since 1986, and has banned synthetic products, in order to guarantee a natural balance of the vineyard. The philosophy of Domaine de Villaine is to transcribe the terroir in its most accurate and sincere expression. The Domaine de Villaine now extends over 36 hectares of vines (with 3 grape varieties: Aligoté, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir) following several acquisitions of parcels, in Saint Aubin 1er cru, and in Rully. The wine range consists of 12 references: The Aligoté Bouzeron cuvée, 3 Bourgogne Côte Chalonnaise cuvées (2 red Burgundies + 1 white Burgundy), 5 Rully cuvées (3 premiers crus + 1 village white + 1 red Rully premier cru), 1 white St Aubin 1er cru cuvée, 1 red Mercurey and finally 1 red Santenay 1er cru. The high quality of Domaine de Villaine wines is praised by critics. Domaine de Villaine uses few new barrels in order not to mark the wines with too much oak, which would mask the aromatic purity of the grape variety and terroir. Thus the white wines of Domaine De Villaine are very aromatic with smooth, vibrant and mineral palates, of very beautiful length. The red wines are fresh, refined, and perfectly balanced. One can say that the wines of Domaine de Villaine show great energy and power, in a style of great purity. Even in rich and sunny vintages like 2015 and 2018, balance remains paramount and the terroir is always felt. The wines of Domaine de Villaine are juicy and expressive wines, combining beautiful textures with a broad mineral imprint. Of note, the aging potential of Bouzeron Aligoté is very significant (more than 10 years). To be recommended or discovered.
