Montcalmès Mourvèdre 2021, from the clay-limestone soils of Puéchabon, is an organic Mourvèdre aged 24 months in barrels. Black-fruit, minty cocoa, and gentle spice aromas lead to a focused, mineral palate. Ideal with red meat or game; decant now or cellar through 2031.
Nestled in the heart of Languedoc, this family estate embodies the exacting standards of an exceptional terroir, where every cuvée reflects harmony between tradition and precision.
- Terroir: Clay-limestone soils of Puéchabon, where limestone gravel and scree shape wines with vibrant minerality within the Vin de France appellation.
- Winemaking: Gentle methods—destemming, crushing, and gravity-fed transfer into tanks—followed by 24 months of aging in Burgundy barrels for a pure, elegant expression of Mourvèdre.
Tasting notes for Domaine de Montcalmès Montcalmès Mourvèdre 2021
Appearance – A deep red color with garnet highlights, dense and silky.
Nose – First, ripe, precise wild black fruit, then notes of cocoa and fresh mint, opening onto smoky accents and a saline, almost iodine-like touch.
Palate – A lithe texture, supported by refined tannins and lively acidity, blends gentle spice and chalky minerality into a remarkably long finish.
Serve decanted at 17 °C in a Burgundy-style red wine glass to reveal its full complexity.
