Appellation replaced since 2007 by Languedoc AC, which covers 10,000 hectares. It distinguishes wines from this region that do not qualify for sub-regional appellations, such as Saint-Chinian, Faugères or Minervois for example, and which are produced primarily on schist hillsides. These are mostly reds, robust and concentrated, made from Carignan, Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Lladoner Pelut, but also light rosés based on Cinsault. Increasingly quality whites are produced there, from Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Picpoul, Roussanne, Rolle and Viognier grape varieties. Among the best producers: Mas Jullien, Domaine Peyre-Rose, Prieuré de Saint-Jean de Bébian.
