A domain under the microscope: Boisson Vadot!

This week the Vins & Millésimes editorial team focuses on the Boisson Vadot estate: Burgundies on the rise!

The Boisson-Vadot estate in Meursault, still very discreet just a few years ago, has been generating enormous attention for 4 vintages now. The reason? The superb precision and depth of its wines from Meursault, Auxey-Duresses, generic Bourgogne or Aligoté, and the consistency of its reds (Beaune, Pommard, Monthélie in particular), sold under 3 labels:

- That of the father, Bernard Boisson-Vadot (3.5 ha), an iconic figure, passionate, upright and exacting;

- From the son, Pierre Boisson (3.5 ha), in charge of all the family's winemaking, dynamic and particularly talented, whose closeness to the Coche-Dury family and arrival at the family estate are very much bearing fruit.

- And finally from the daughter, Anne Boisson (3.5 ha).

The estate's vines were planted between 1940 and 1950 on a total of approximately 8 hectares. For this family enterprise, working the vines is no small undertaking: they tend their vines the old-fashioned way, meaning without chemical fertilizers, with the elimination of systemic products and soil plowing. The aging periods are relatively long with few new barrels, so as to avoid too pronounced an oak imprint. The Meursaults are an exception, but the percentage of new wood always remains low: just 20%. The wines are unfiltered. Beyond that, all decisions specific to vinification are made according to the vintage, so that nothing is set in stone and nature and its particularities can express themselves…

The estate's most celebrated cuvées are:

Anne Boisson Aligoté

A wine from 60-year-old vines exclusively planted in Meursault! An atypical Aligoté with a certain richness, a lovely purity and a seductive aromatic expression of fresh citrus, floral and lightly toasted notes.

Pierre Boisson Meursault

Sourced from several fine plots within the appellation, this Meursault is the perfect testament to the success of the "Boisson" style, which some might too hastily sum up as a resemblance to the "Coche-Dury" touch.

These Meursaults are particularly endowed with purity and balance, with toasted aromas on opening that give way to delicate notes of citrus and flowers after decanting and/or a few years of aging.

Boisson Vadot Meursault Les Grands Charrons

"Les Grands Charrons" is located near Les Gouttes d'Or, on a predominantly limestone hillside with a gentle slope facing the village. The profile of this full-bodied Meursault perfectly balances richness and tension, delivering superb notes of toasted almonds, citrus, yellow fruits and limestone, supported by a very fine length. A wine that can already be enjoyed within 2 to 3 years but that will be even better appreciated with age.

Boisson Vadot Meursault Les Chevalières

"Les Chevalières" faces north-east, located near Les Meix Chavaux and Les Luchets, on a very stony, cool terroir exposed to the winds. This wine, endowed with superb minerality, distills beautiful notes of fresh and floral citrus. The palate, very long, is straight, taut and mineral. A wine for long aging.

Boisson Vadot Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières

"Les Genevrières" is located between Les Poruzots and Les Charmes, on a predominantly limestone soil. This great wine from one of Burgundy's finest climats, built for very long aging, immediately demonstrates the greatness of its origin: concentration, complexity, superb minerality, tension, balance and incredible length.

A successful bet for this atypical and complementary Father / Son / Daughter trio that deserves the full attention of the wine lover in search of rising stars that will soon be impossible to find!
