Tasting notes for Château Margaux 1988
To the eye – A garnet red robe with tawny highlights, dense and silky, betraying a harmonious maturity and a velvety structure.
On the nose – First notes of ripe blackcurrant and fresh violet, followed by a touch of cedar, blonde tobacco and a mineral hint reminiscent of the damp chalk of Margaux soils.
On the palate – A precise and taut attack, where the melted tannins envelop a lively acidity, while a saline and persistent finish hints at aromas of liquorice and undergrowth.
Serve at 16–18°C in a Bordeaux glass to release its full elegance.
1988 Vintage
A vintage marked by slow ripening and a dry summer, yielding structured wines yet less austere than 1986, with a beautiful harmony already apparent today.
- Ageing potential : To be enjoyed until 2030–2035, to be stored in a cool cellar (12–14°C) and kept away from light.
