The Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos des Varoilles 2020 Magnum from Domaine Prieuré Roch is a Pinot Noir from a clay-limestone climat. Vinified with whole clusters, it reveals aromas of cherry and spice, with an elegant and mineral palate. Perfect for 10-15 years of aging, it is a sublime match for meats and cheeses.
Domaine Prieuré Roch
Nestled in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, this family estate embodies the heritage of an authentic Burgundy, where respect for the terroir has been paramount since 1988.
- Terroir: 14 hectares under organic cultivation, including prestigious plots such as Gevrey-Chambertin, where clay-limestone soils sculpt wines of distinctive minerality.
- Vinification: Natural method – whole clusters, without added sulphur – to reveal the purity of the Pinot Noir and the soul of the climat.
Tasting notes for the wine Domaine Prieuré Roch Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos des Varoilles 2020
To the eye: A deep red robe with garnet highlights, of a silky and luminous density, like a mineral velvet.
On the nose: First, aromas of black cherry and fresh raspberry, then deeper notes of liquorice, undergrowth and a saline touch that evokes the limestone rocks of the terroir.
On the palate: An elegant and taut texture, carried by a lively acidity and fine tannins, while a chalky minerality extends the finish into a long, saline persistence.
Serve at 14-16°C in a Burgundy glass to release its full complexity.
Vintage 2020
A vintage marked by early ripeness and a perfect balance between freshness and concentration, ideal for wines intended for aging.
- Aging potential: 15 to 20 years, to be stored in a cool cellar (12-14°C) and away from light.
