The Thomas Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jean 2023 : Chardonnay old vines on chalky soils, natural fermentation and 20% new barrels. Aromas of citrus and vanilla, silky and mineral palate. Perfect with turbot or Beaufort, to keep for 8-10 years.
Heir to a line of winegrowers spanning five generations, Domaine Thomas Morey cultivates with precision the art of great white Burgundies, rooted in the limestone slopes of Chassagne-Montrachet.
- Terroir : Clay-limestone and marly soils of the Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru appellation, where the Clos Saint-Jean climat, fully east-facing, lends the Chardonnay a chalky minerality and a saline tension.
- Winemaking : Spontaneous fermentation in barrels (20% new), without lees stirring, to preserve the purity of the fruit and the mineral complexity, with sulphur kept to an absolute minimum.
- To the eye : Intense straw-yellow robe with green highlights, of a silky clarity and a mineral brilliance.
- On the nose : Vibrant aromas of candied citrus (green apple, greengage), followed by precise tropical notes (pineapple, starfruit), a hint of fine vanilla and an elegant reduction, carried by a discreet salinity.
- On the palate : Juicy and fruity attack, structured by a taut acidity and a chalky minerality, before a long, dynamic finish where power and elegance intertwine.
Serve between 12 and 14 °C in a Burgundy glass to reveal its complexity.
A vintage marked by generous ripeness and preserved freshness, offering a rare balance between ripe fruit and mineral tension.
- Ageing potential : To be kept 8 to 12 years in a cool cellar (12-14 °C) and away from light, to allow its complexity to fully develop.
