History of Domaine Thomas Perseval

Domaine Thomas Perseval is located in Chamery, a charming village in the Montagne de Reims, known for the quality of its soils and its climate, which is particularly conducive to the production of great Champagnes. From a family of winegrowers, Thomas Perseval gradually took over the reins of the family estate in the early 2000s with a clear ambition: to reveal the deep identity of each plot.

Very quickly, he established himself as one of the rising figures of the Champagne revival. Refusing industrial standards, he turned towards environmentally respectful viticulture and low-interventionist winemaking. His approach rests on a strong conviction: a great Champagne is born first and foremost in the vineyard.

Today, the wines of Domaine Thomas Perseval are sought out by lovers of rare wines and passionate enthusiasts of grower Champagne. Each cuvée reflects a personal and sincere vision.

Terroirs and Vines of Domaine Thomas Perseval

The vineyard of Domaine Thomas Perseval extends over approximately 2.5 hectares located primarily around the village of Chamery, in Premier Cru. The plots benefit from varied exposures and soils composed mainly of clay, sand and limestone, offering a rich and nuanced aromatic palette.

The three Champagne grape varieties – pinot noir, pinot meunier and chardonnay – are cultivated with the utmost care. For many years, Thomas Perseval has chosen to manage the vineyard using organic and biodynamic methods. The soils are worked, yields are controlled and biodiversity is encouraged.

This plot-based and respectful approach makes it possible to obtain grapes of great purity, an essential foundation for crafting high-expression Champagnes. Each micro-terroir is thus showcased through precise and distinctive cuvées.

Winemaking at Domaine Thomas Perseval

At the winery, the philosophy of Domaine Thomas Perseval is simple: to accompany the grapes rather than constrain them. The winemaking is carried out with a minimum of inputs in order to preserve the authenticity of the wines.

Fermentations take place predominantly using indigenous yeasts. A portion of the wines is aged in oak barrels to add complexity and depth, while other cuvées favour tank ageing to preserve freshness and tension.

Dosage levels are low, or even nonexistent for certain cuvées, with the aim of respecting the natural balance of the wines. This approach clearly places the estate within the movement of organic, biodynamic Champagnes and those close in spirit to natural wines.

The result: Champagnes that are upright, vibrant, gastronomic and endowed with a very fine capacity for ageing.
