History of Champagne Pierre Péters

Champagne Pierre Péters dates back to 1858, the year Gaspar Péters, a Luxembourger, married Mademoiselle Doué, the owner of vineyards in Mesnil-sur-Oger. Together, they developed an initial wine estate of 2 hectares, which they cultivated with their son. However, it was not until 1919 that Camille Péters, Gaspar's grandson, decided to transform production and sell the wine under the family name. Despite the economic crisis of 1929, he persevered on this path, thereby building the reputation of the house.

In 1944, Pierre Péters took over the estate following the death of his father Camille, and launched his first vintage under his own name. Under his leadership, the estate grew in stature and became a major player in the production of Grand Cru Champagne. François, Pierre's son, continued this tradition of excellence by introducing the perpetual reserve system and developing exports. Rodolphe Péters, a trained oenologist, took over the helm in 2008. Under his guidance, the estate has modernized while preserving the legacy of previous generations, achieving worldwide recognition today.

Terroirs and Vines of Champagne Pierre Péters

Champagne Pierre Péters owns more than 19 hectares of vineyards, all located on the prestigious terroirs of the Côte des Blancs. This region is renowned for its surface chalk, a unique soil that retains moisture and promotes excellent minerality in the grapes. The vines are planted in the Grand Cru villages of Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Avize and Cramant, where the hillsides face east, thus protecting the vines from westerly winds and adverse weather.

The Péters family has practiced mass selection for several generations, enabling genetic diversity among the vines, with an average vine age of over 30 years. This choice guarantees the production of grapes with unique characteristics and represents a key element in the identity of Pierre Péters Champagnes. Furthermore, the estate is certified Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE), demonstrating its commitment to environmentally responsible viticulture.

Winemaking at Champagne Pierre Péters

Winemaking at Pierre Péters is rooted in a commitment to precision and respect for the terroir. The harvest is carried out by hand to ensure maximum integrity of the grape bunches. The pressing, slow and delicate, extracts pure and refined juices essential to the production of high-quality Champagne. Each plot is vinified separately, preserving the distinctive characteristics of each terroir.

The musts are fermented in small stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature, to preserve the varietal aromas of the chardonnay. The wines are then aged on fine lees and regularly tasted to monitor their evolution. Champagne Pierre Péters also uses a perpetual reserve, a method inspired by the solera, to blend the base wines with a selection of vintages, thereby bringing unique complexity and depth.

The Cuvées of Champagne Pierre Péters

Champagne Pierre Péters offers several iconic cuvées that reflect its expertise and the richness of its terroirs:

Réserve Blanc de Blancs

A blend of more than 20 different vintages, this cuvée is composed exclusively of chardonnays from the Côte des Blancs. Its dosage is between 6 and 7 g/L, offering a perfect balance between freshness and complexity.

La Grande Réserve 

A blend of the estate's finest plots (Mesnil, Avize, Cramant, Oger), with approximately 20% of the perpetual reserve. Aged on the lees for 36 months, this cuvée presents a dosage of 5 g/L, combining finesse and intensity.

Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs

This Champagne, produced exclusively in the finest years, comes from the most prestigious crus of the Côte des Blancs, with a dosage of 2 g/L. Its elegant structure and vivacity make it an ideal cuvée for lovers of extra-brut Champagnes.

Les Chétillons

This cuvée is the estate's flagship, crafted from old vines in the lieu-dit "Les Chétillons" in Mesnil-sur-Oger. The minerality and chalky power of the terroir are fully expressed in this vintage Champagne, with a dosage between 3.5 and 4.5 g/L depending on the year.

Les Montjolys

Sourced from the Montjoly terroir in Mesnil-sur-Oger, this Grand Cru cuvée is crafted from seven plots of old vines, vinified separately. It ages for a minimum of six years on the lees, offering a rich palate and a saline finish. Dosage between 3.5 and 4.5 g/L depending on the vintage.

L'Étonnant Monsieur Victor - Collection MK 

A unique and bold project, this cuvée is a multi-vintage blend, crafted from the finest juices of the perpetual reserve and grapes from the Chétillons plots. Aged under cork for six years, each edition of this cuvée is personalized by Victor Péters, Rodolphe's son, with unique labels inspired by renowned artists. The dosage is between 3.5 and 4.5 g/L.
