Jacques Lassaigne, a Champagne estate without artifice
In the south of Champagne, in Montgueux, in the Aube, the Jacques Lassaigne family estate has been maintaining its 4 hectares of vines since 1964. The Chardonnay vines, averaging 40 years old, flourish here in the heart of the Côte des Bar where Pinot Noir remains predominant. This limestone hill with a cool climate, overlooking the Seine valley, has earned Montgueux the nickname of the Montrachet of Champagne in reference to the famous homonymous mount in Burgundy.
Emmanuel Lassaigne took over the estate in 1999 following organic and biodynamic farming principles (uncertified). In the cellar, the desire for minimal intervention applies: fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts, and no sulphite or liqueur additions are made after disgorgement. The Blanc de Blancs Emmanuel Lassaigne (son of Jacques) stands out for its elegant bubble and suave profile, different from the wines of the Côte des Blancs, which are more taut and chiselled. Discover, among others, the cuvées Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut Les Vignes de Montgueux — the reference cuvée, a blend of plots delivering a fresh and appealing style, perfect as a delicious aperitif Champagne; Le Champagne Le Cotet, a delicate, mineral and citrusy wine from old vines; the cuvée Lassaigne La Colline Inspirée, with a more Burgundian profile, a Champagne aged in oak barrels for delicious notes of brioche and exotic fruits; a splendid indulgence, the cuvée de Champagne Jacques Lassaigne Rosé de Montgueux; and finally, the cuvée de Champagne Jacques Lassaigne extra brut blanc de noirs Les Papilles Insolites. The Lassaigne estate produces a vintage cuvée every year, sourced from 2 to 3 plots and aged on laths for a minimum of 8 years. Seize the opportunity to taste the fabulous Millésimé Champagnes from Jacques Lassaigne 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
