History of Champagne Emmanuel Brochet

Emmanuel Brochet's story begins in 1997 when he took over the family vines, which had previously been leased to other growers. At that time, Emmanuel made the bold choice to become the first winemaker in his family and to convert the estate entirely to organic farming. This choice, still marginal in Champagne at the time, reflects his vision and his commitment to a viticulture that respects nature.

In 2002, after five years of meticulous work, Emmanuel produced his first vintage. His Champagnes quickly attracted attention thanks to their authenticity and their ability to express the essence of the Champagne terroir. His commitment to quality and sustainability has made him an essential figure among the region's independent winemakers.

Terroirs and Vines of Champagne Emmanuel Brochet

Emmanuel Brochet's Champagne extends across a single plot of 2.5 hectares, located at the lieu-dit "Le Mont Benoit", just three kilometres south of Reims. This unique plot benefits from an ideal south-east exposure, which promotes the ripening of the grapes while preserving their freshness.

The soils of Mont Benoit consist of a surface layer of clay and silt over a chalky subsoil from the Cretaceous era, offering excellent drainage and imparting a distinctive minerality to the wines. The vines, averaging 40 years of age, include the three traditional grape varieties of Champagne:

Pinot Meunier (37%): brings a fruity roundness and indulgent aromas.

Chardonnay (30%): brings finesse and elegance, with floral and mineral notes.

Pinot Noir (23%): structures the wines and gives them complex aromas of red fruits.

The vineyard has been managed entirely organically since 2008, and was certified in 2011. Emmanuel favours practices that respect the ecosystem, such as ploughing the soil, preserving biodiversity, and eliminating chemical products.

Winemaking at Champagne Emmanuel Brochet

In the cellar, Emmanuel Brochet adopts an artisanal approach to preserve the integrity of the fruit and best reveal the characteristics of the terroir. The winemaking is guided by several fundamental principles:

Use of indigenous yeasts: Since 2013, all fermentations are carried out with yeasts naturally present on the grapes, guaranteeing an authentic expression of the terroir.

Ageing in oak barrels: The musts ferment and are aged in barrels, predominantly older ones, which adds aromatic complexity without overpowering the profile of the wine.

Minimal intervention: No fining or filtration is carried out, preserving the full richness of the aromas and the natural texture of the wine.

Low or no dosage: The Champagnes are extra-brut, often non-dosed, in order to preserve their purity and their sharp character.

Each cuvée rests on its fine lees until bottling, benefiting from extended maturation to develop complex aromas and elegant effervescence.

The Cuvées of Champagne Emmanuel Brochet

Le Mont Benoit Premier Cru

The flagship cuvée of the estate, "Le Mont Benoit" is a blend of the three Champagne grape varieties (Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay) sourced from a single plot. This extra-brut champagne is aged in oak barrels and displays notes of white fruits, toasted bread, and a striking minerality. A perfect balance between power and freshness, it is ideal for lovers of vinous and refined champagnes.

Les Hauts Meuniers

A rare and exclusive cuvée, produced from old Pinot Meunier vines planted in 1962. This Champagne, unfiltered and carefully aged, captivates with its depth, its structure, and its complex aromas. With only 1,670 bottles produced, it is a true treasure for collectors.

Champagne Rosé

Emmanuel Brochet's rosé is crafted using two methods: blending and saignée. This Champagne captivates with its aromas of fresh red fruits and its delicacy. A rare wine that perfectly reflects the estate's expertise.

Ratafia de Champagne

Produced in very small quantities, this sweet and aromatic spirit is made from the remnants of grapes from the three main grape varieties. Emmanuel Brochet's Ratafia is ideal for concluding a meal with elegance.
