Wine 2001 Bourgogne

The 2001 vintage in Burgundy makes for a classic and elegant year, somewhat overshadowed between the charming 2000 and the great 2002, shaped by a variable season with several hail and rain episodes. The reds (Pinot Noir) seduce through their freshness, finesse and purity, in a slender format that is sometimes firm but distinguished, with lovely successes in the Côte de Nuits, often undervalued. The whites (Chardonnay) are fresh, upright and classic, from Meursault to Puligny-Montrachet and Chablis. The ageing potential is medium-term, though some reds have nonetheless aged well. Most cuvées are today at their peak, or even beginning to decline for the lightest ones. Discreet but sincere, the 2001 deserves to be appreciated without waiting any longer.
