Wine 2006 Bourgogne

The 2006 vintage counts in Burgundy among the good but heterogeneous years, marked by a contrasted climate: a sweltering July, followed by a cool and rainy August, then a variable September that demanded rigorous sorting at harvest. The whites (Chardonnay) often prove the most accomplished, generous and fruity, carried by fine substance, from Meursault to Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet, as well as Chablis. The reds (Pinot Noir) seduce through the brilliance of their fruit and their suppleness, with a more consistent success in the Côte de Nuits (Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Vosne-Romanée) than in the Côte de Beaune, where the style remains charming rather than powerful. Designed for medium-term enjoyment, the 2006 has today reached its maturity: most cuvées are at their peak, and they should be appreciated without waiting too long. It follows the great 2005 and precedes the lighter 2007s.
