In tribute to Jules Chauvet, a regional pioneer of natural wine, he named his estate Jules Desjourneys. His wines stand out for their meticulous approach, both in the vineyard, where he uses biodynamic practices, and in the cellar. 

Jules Desjourneys in Beaujolais

Philosophy and Approach: Domaine Jules Desjourneys is guided by a philosophy of respect for nature and terroir. Winemaker Jules Desjourneys is known for his commitment to biodynamic viticulture and his refusal to use chemical inputs. He seeks to let the character of the terroir express itself fully in his wines.

Vineyard Area: Domaine Jules Desjourneys has a relatively small vineyard area, but gives each plot special attention. Its vines lie in some of the finest Beaujolais crus, notably Fleurie, Moulin à Vent, and Chénas. 

Grape Varieties Grown: Jules Desjourneys focuses primarily on Gamay for his red wines. This grape variety expresses itself particularly well in Beaujolais, producing fruity, elegant reds when vinified with care.

Natural Winemaking: The estate is known for its natural winemaking. Jules Desjourneys uses native yeasts for fermentation, avoids adding chemicals, and limits the use of sulfur. This approach allows the wines to reflect their terroir more faithfully and retain their natural character.

Jules Desjourneys in Burgundy 

Despite his strong personality, the owner has not given up his passion for Burgundy’s prestigious Chardonnays! 

The estate subsequently expanded into Burgundy’s Mâconnais to produce cuvées from several appellations:

• Mâcon Fuissé
• Mâcon Prissé
• Mâcon Verzé
• Saint Véran 

The first vintages, released starting in 2014, won over wine lovers seeking precise, vibrant, energetic wines and convinced them of his talent.

The estate clearly knows how to work with Chardonnay, just as it does with Gamay in Beaujolais.
