Domaine Auguste Clape
A pillar of the Cornas appellation, this family estate has embodied for generations the granitic and sun-drenched soul of the northern Rhône.
- Terroir: the steep slopes of Cornas, where blue schists and granites sculpt Syrahs of vibrant minerality and rare depth.
- Vinification: aged in used oak foudres, absolute respect for the fruit, pursuit of a natural tension and an unvarnished expression of the terroir.
Tasting notes for the wine Domaine Auguste Clape Cornas 2019
To the eye: a dense purple robe with almost black hues, of a velvety texture and chalky intensity.
On the nose: aromas of wild blackberry and fresh blackcurrant intertwine with notes of liquorice, black pepper and graphite, lifted by a saline and mineral touch.
On the palate: a silky and powerful attack, carried by a lively acidity and a tightly knit tannic frame, which extends into a long, saline finish marked by accents of violet and flint.
Serve at 16-18°C in a Burgundy-style red wine glass to release its full complexity.
Vintage 2019
A vintage of concentration and structure, where summer heat ripened the grapes while preserving a characteristic mineral freshness.
- Aging potential: 15 to 20 years, to be stored in a cool cellar (12-14°C) away from light.
