Clos Rougeard
A family estate rooted in Chacé since 1664, Clos Rougeard embodies exacting standards and unwavering fidelity to the Saumur-Champigny terroir.
- Terroir: clay-limestone soils of the appellation, deep chalky subsoil shaping wines of a distinctive minerality.
- Vinification: biodynamic practices, patient aging in barrel and bottle to reveal the purity of Cabernet Franc.
Tasting notes for Clos Rougeard Saumur-Champigny Le Bourg 2003
To the eye: deep garnet robe with brick-red highlights, of a silky and dense texture.
On the nose: aromas of wild blackberry, candied black cherry, gentle spices and graphite, lifted by a saline and mineral touch.
On the palate: lively and precise attack, elegant and well-integrated tannins, taut acidity leading to a long and chalky finish carried by a persistent salinity.
Serve at 16–18°C in a Bordeaux-style red wine glass to enhance its complexity.

A vintage marked by early ripeness, yielding fleshy and generous wines while retaining the characteristic freshness of the terroir.
