Nakada Park

Wines from Champagne Nakada-Park: buy at the best price

Champagne Nakada-Park is a confidential micro-estate on the Côte des Bar, in the Aube, founded by the couple Koji Nakada and Jae Hwa Park, already known for Maison Lou Dumont in Burgundy. Established in the south of the Champagne region, this young récoltant-manipulant cultivates just over one hectare of Pinot Noir under organic farming, on the celebrated Kimmeridgian clay-limestone soils. True to a resolutely Burgundian spirit, each cuvée is vinified plot by plot, in oak barrels, vintage-dated and presented as brut nature. The result: single-vineyard Champagnes of great tension, precise and easy to drink, where terroir expression takes precedence over power.

History of Champagne Nakada-Park

The estate's story begins with a dream born more than twenty-five years ago. A sommelier and oenologist originally from Okayama, Japan, Koji Nakada left his native island in 1996 to settle in Burgundy and study oenology in Beaune. It was in Dijon that he met Jae Hwa Park, his future wife from Korea. Together, in 2000 they founded Maison Lou Dumont in Gevrey-Chambertin, an artisanal estate that bridges the gap between Burgundy and Asia. But very early on, during a formative internship, Koji nurtured another passion: one day crafting his own champagne.

This patiently matured project took shape around 2019 and 2020, when the couple acquired their first plots in the Côte des Bar, in the communes of Courteron and Gyé-sur-Seine, joined in 2022 by the Hermitage vineyard at Neuville-sur-Seine. The first vintage came to life in 2020, in the form of a récoltant-manipulant with a minuscule production. From the very beginning, the vines have been farmed organically, a commitment made official by the certification obtained from the 2023 harvest. Champagne Nakada-Park thus embodies the meeting between a very personal vision and the still authentic terroir of southern Champagne.

Terroirs and Vineyards of Champagne Nakada-Park

The vineyard spreads across the Côte des Bar, around Troyes, that southern part of Champagne whose verdant valleys rest on Kimmeridgian limestone, the same marl-limestone bedrock rich in fossils found in nearby Chablis. This terroir lends the wines a singular depth, minerality and tension. The estate today covers just over one hectare, divided into several plots spread across Courteron, Gyé-sur-Seine and Neuville-sur-Seine, each regarded as an autonomous unit of expression. At Gyé-sur-Seine, the sandier and more calcareous soils add an extra aerial and saline dimension.

The estate's king grape variety is Pinot Noir, planted on these hillsides where Burgundy is never far away. The vineyard management is meticulous and respectful of life, with careful control of yields and ripeness. Koji Nakada sets himself an uncommon standard of excellence: using only grapes from vines at least thirty years old, a guarantee of concentration and complexity. Additional work is carried out on the canopy to encourage aeration of the bunches, and harvesting is done by hand. This constant care in the vineyard is the key to a raw material of the very highest quality.

Winemaking at Champagne Nakada-Park

The winemaking reflects a Burgundian spirit applied to Champagne, built around inviolable principles: one single plot, one single grape variety, one single vintage per cuvée. Each plot is vinified separately in order to reveal its own personality, in a fully assumed single-vineyard approach. Interventions are kept to a strict minimum, with limited pump-overs and punch-downs, indigenous yeasts and very low sulphur additions, in keeping with the purity of the fruit and the terroir.

Fermentation and ageing take place exclusively in oak barrels sourced from Burgundy, often casks already used over several vintages, so that the wood accompanies the wine without ever dominating it. The champagnes then benefit from a long ageing on lees that brings tension, precision and depth. All are offered as brut nature, with no dosage or an extremely low one, to allow the clarity of the fruit and the freshness of the limestone to express themselves fully. The Nakada-Park style thus favours harmony, structure and digestibility, far from opulent or immediately gratifying interpretations.

The Cuvées of Champagne Nakada-Park

Vignes de Courteron, Brut Nature: a blanc de noirs from pure Pinot Noir, this cuvée comes from the hillside area of Courteron, where the vine sinks its roots into a Kimmeridgian clay-limestone soil. Hand-harvested, vinified and aged in oak barrels, zero dosage: everything contributes to precision. The nose, subtle and refined, reveals notes of lemon and citrus lifted by a saline touch, while the palate combines tension, finesse and a beautiful chalky length. Produced in a few thousand numbered bottles and disgorged at the end of 2024, it pairs wonderfully with shellfish and crustaceans.

Vignes de Gyé-sur-Seine, Brut Nature: this single-vineyard wine is born on the hillside of Gyé-sur-Seine, with sandier and more calcareous soils, also planted in Pinot Noir and vinified in oak barrels. Undosed and drawn off at approximately 1,700 bottles, disgorged in November 2024, it captivates with a profile of great nuance. The bouquet, finely chiselled, blends lemon with delicate iodine notes of crustaceans and a hint of blackcurrant leaf. The palate, extremely precise and almost delicate, nonetheless reveals real complexity and a vibrant tension that bear the estate's hallmark. A gastronomic champagne, all restraint and energy.

Harmonie en Seine, Brut Nature: this cuvée celebrates the plots of the Seine valley, around Neuville-sur-Seine and the Hermitage vineyard that enriched the estate in 2022. Crafted from Pinot Noir in the purest house spirit, it is vinified and aged in Burgundian oak barrels, then given a lengthy élevage on lees before disgorgement without dosage. True to its name, it seeks harmony and balance: a deep, restrained and coherent champagne, with a calm and precise voice, that tells the story of the Côte des Bar with artisanal and deeply personal sensitivity. A beautiful single-vineyard expression to discover in order to fully grasp the finesse of the Kimmeridgian terroir.
