Champagne Alexis Limar wines: buy at the best price

Champagne A. Limar is among the most promising young estates in the world of artisanal Champagne. In La Neuville-aux-Larris, in the heart of the Marne Valley, Alexis Limar and his wife Jeanne cultivate around 3 hectares of vines across four villages, including the grand cru village of Mailly-Champagne. With vines tended by hand without herbicides or pesticides, spontaneous fermentations, no fining or filtration, and a brut nature dosage, their grower Champagnes, such as Nos Terres Amoureuses and Les Pieds dans la Terre, offer a sincere, profound, and vibrant expression of their terroirs.

The History of Champagne Alexis Limar

Alexis Limar grew up among his grandfather’s vines in La Neuville-aux-Larris, a small village in the Marne Valley. To prepare to take over this family legacy, he studied at Viti Campus in Avize, a leading viticulture school in Champagne attended by many of the appellation’s most talented winemakers.

In 2023, he took the leap and officially founded his own estate, taking over his grandfather’s vines. Together with his wife Jeanne, he is building a cohesive venture step by step, grounded in respect for living things and the expression of the soils.

Terroirs and Vineyards of Champagne Alexis Limar

The estate’s vineyards cover approximately 3 hectares across La Neuville-aux-Larris, Cuchery and Belval-sous-Châtillon, on the clay-limestone slopes of the Marne Valley, as well as in the prestigious grand cru of Mailly-Champagne in the Montagne de Reims. This diversity of terroirs gives Alexis Limar a rich palette, from the freshness and fruit of the Marne slopes to the mineral power of a grand cru renowned for its Pinot Noir.

Pinot Meunier, the valley’s signature grape variety, grows alongside Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Some of the vines come from massal selections, and certain plots, such as those planted in 1983 near Belval-sous-Châtillon, bring the depth and natural balance of mature vines. No herbicides or pesticides are used: the vines are tended by hand, with a constant focus on balance and living soils.

Winemaking at Champagne Alexis Limar

In the cellar, Alexis Limar follows the same hands-off philosophy. Fermentation occurs spontaneously using only native yeasts, and the wines are neither fined nor filtered to preserve their integrity. Since 2023, he has chosen to vinify exclusively in small Burgundy barrels, which add texture and elegance without masking the fruit. Depending on the cuvée, malolactic fermentation is either allowed or blocked to emphasize fullness or tension.

After the secondary fermentation in bottle, the wines undergo extended aging on the lees, refining the bubbles and adding aromatic complexity. The champagnes are offered as brut nature, with no added sugar, allowing the purity of the grapes and the distinct character of each terroir to shine through. The result: precise, profound champagnes made for the table and full of character.

The Cuvées of Champagne Alexis Limar

Nos Terres Amoureuses (Brut Nature): a blanc de noirs made exclusively from Pinot Meunier grown on the clay-limestone slopes of La Neuville-aux-Larris, Cuchery and Belval-sous-Châtillon, partly from massal selections. Fermented with native yeasts, without malolactic fermentation, then aged extensively on the lees, this cuvée opens with fresh pear, mirabelle plum and white flowers, followed by a crisp, dry finish with notes of crunchy apple, flint and salinity. An authentic, vibrant expression of Meunier from the Marne Valley.

Les Pieds dans la Terre (vintage Brut Nature): conceived as a return to its roots, this vintage cuvée is a blend of predominantly Chardonnay, complemented by Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, including grapes from vines planted in 1983 near Belval-sous-Châtillon. The 2019 vintage combines approximately 60% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Noir and 20% Meunier, while the 2020, vinified in Burgundy barrels with spontaneous fermentation and completed malolactic fermentation, has even greater breadth. Unfiltered and with no dosage, it is a champagne made for the table, marked by exceptional clarity and expressing the close bond between the vine, the vintage and the winemaker.
