Macon

Important city and capital of the Maconnais, in Burgundy, it gives its name to the following designations, in ascending order of quality: Macon, Macon Superieur, Macon Villages (followed by the name of the qualified municipality), in white, from Chardonnay and minority in red, from Gamay and Pinot Noir. The yields are limited to 55 hl / ha, and the vineyards, located on limestone hills, are separated by agricultural land, unlike the ones of Cote d'Or. The vinifications are carried out in barrels and only a few producers use new oak.

Saint-Veran, Pouilly-Fuisse, Pouilly-Vinzelles, and since 1998, Vire-Clesse are the flagship village appellations, the main producers being the Bret Bothers, Daniel Barraud, Guffens-Heynen, Héritiers du Comte Lafon and Verget.
