All wines from the Viré Clessé appellation in Burgundy
The Viré Clessé appellation, located in the Mâconnais in Burgundy, is dedicated to white wines made from the Chardonnay grape. Created in 1998, it extends over approximately 400 hectares in the communes of Viré, Clessé, Laizé and Montbellet, in Saône-et-Loire, between Tournus and Mâcon. The vineyard, located on hillsides at 200-440 meters altitude, sits on Bajocian limestone soils, Jurassic marl-limestone and "chailles" clay, ideal for floral white wines (acacia, hawthorn), fruity (peach, citrus) and balanced. With an annual production of approximately 23,000 hectoliters (2.9 million bottles), Viré Clessé has replaced the former Mâcon-Viré and Mâcon-Clessé denominations since 2002. Without Premiers Crus, localities such as Quintaine or Roally enrich its identity.
