Established in Chorey-les-Beaune since 2016, Domaine Petit Roy is the work of Seiichi Saito (also known as Seiichi Wang), a winemaker of Sino-Japanese origin who has become one of Burgundy's rising stars. From a vineyard of approximately 2.1 hectares farmed biodynamically, complemented by carefully selected grape purchases from producers sharing the same values, Petit Roy crafts a range of white and red wines from a variety of appellations: Bourgogne, Hautes-Côtes de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses, Saint-Romain, Maranges and many more.

The TOP winemakers of Burgundy

...Domaine Petit Roy has made its way and despite the small surface area of its vines (2.1 Ha), Seiichi Saito happily multiplies the cuvées: Bourgogne Aligoté, Bourgogne rouge, Côte de Nuits village, Hautes Côte de Beaune red and white, Maranges red and white, Monthélie 1^er Cru, and Savigny les Beaune. A new and interesting cuvée of Altesse grape variety (in vin de France) has recently been produced. The entire vineyard is worked here in biodynamics, and the red wines are all harvested in whole bunches, in order to maintain beautiful concentration and bring lovely tannins of great precision. Concerning its white Burgundy wines, Domaine Petit Roy has chosen to moderate barrel aging in order to bring out the full expression of its terroir. At Domaine Petit Roy, no new wood during aging to avoid marking the wines too much, but just low doses of sulfur, which thus avoids any aromatic deviation. The wines present beautiful density, remarkable balance and a very nice mouthfeel. The l'Orme cuvée is a very nice introduction to discover the style of Domaine Petit Roy. It is a wine that is both gourmet, with beautiful density, juicy, fresh and of great finesse, even though it is a simple Bourgogne appellation, but much more worthy of a Chorey-les-Beaune AOC. The "generic" Bourgogne cuvée from Domaine Petit Roy is a true little jewel of fruit, so gourmet; on the nose, the wine reveals notes of raspberry, morello cherry, cranberry juice and a very light earthy side. Aging in old barrels brings beautiful oxygenation to the wine and allows to obtain a Burgundy perfectly accessible from opening. The palate is just as superb as the nose, we find this very enticing side with notes of tangy fruits, but also a certain firmness that reinforces the length on the palate. On the wines of the 2018 vintage, the vine resisted well to the high heat because spring had allowed to build up water reserves. We can therefore find the qualities of intense fruit of 2015 and the extreme maturity of 2003, with a juicy side specific to the 2018 vintage. The 2019 vintage is on its side more strongly contrasted. It was very hot and dry, but the wines display freshness and good acidity, as well as a gourmandise that will seduce Burgundy wine lovers. Petit Roy, a future estate that will count has just been born, and you should take advantage to discover its wines before fame contributes to drying up the supply, because the production of Domaine Petit Roy wines is very limited.
