The history of the Champenois estate Christophe Mignon dates back to its family roots, where the union of two winegrowing families gave birth to a passionate lineage of winemakers. It all began with Édouard Moutardier and Marie Lanne, who wrote the first pages of this viticultural saga by uniting their destinies and bringing to life the first generation of the estate. Their commitment and their love of the land laid the foundations of a tradition that would be perpetuated through the generations.
The saga continued with Eugénie Moutardier and Eugène Prudhomme, who consolidated their love and passion by merging their lands to jointly operate a vineyard. Their innovative vision and attachment to the terroir were quickly rewarded with prestigious distinctions for their red wines as early as the 1930s. Their dedication laid the foundations of a reputation for excellence that would endure.
Raymonde Prudhomme and Lucien Salot then took over, perpetuating the family's winegrowing tradition and contributing to its expansion by acquiring new vineyard plots in Le Breuil. Their attention to detail and their desire to stand out marked a new milestone in the history of the estate, with particular care given to the appearance of the bottles.
Josiane Salot and Gilbert Mignon then took the helm of the Maison de Champagne Gilbert Mignon, passing on their passion for the land and the terroir to their son Christophe, who represented the fifth generation of winemakers in the family. They created a brand as a tribute to their great-grandfather, and then Christophe decided to affirm his identity by creating his own brand, Domaine Christophe Mignon.
In 2006, Laurence, Christophe's wife, joined the venture as the estate was in full expansion. Together, they developed the Maison's export activity, highlighting their commitment to nature and their love of the terroir through a range of 100% Meunier Champagnes. Their collaboration strengthened the estate's positioning in the international market.
Since 2015, Loann, the son of Laurence and Christophe, has passionately committed himself to learning the craft of winemaking, while his brother Nathan has chosen a different professional path while remaining involved in the life of the estate. Both represent the sixth generation of winemakers on the family estate, perpetuating a precious heritage that has endured for nearly 140 years.
At Domaine Christophe Mignon, viticulture is envisioned as a "plant therapy" — a way of healing nature through nature and for nature. Agricultural practices draw on this holistic approach, where medicinal plants are harvested and dried for use in the vineyard throughout the year. Plants such as nettle, horsetail, comfrey, burdock and meadowsweet are used in various preparations, such as infusions, decoctions or fermented extracts. These preparations may have fungicidal, insecticidal, repellent or stimulating qualities, thereby contributing to maintaining the natural balance of the viticultural ecosystem.
Winemaking at Domaine Christophe Mignon also incorporates homeopathic practices, where dilutions based on natural sulphur, copper, garlic, silica and regulatory plants are used to inform the water intended for preparations. The aim is not to block diseases, but rather to prevent their development, promoting the health and resilience of the vines in a natural way.
Geobiology plays an important role in the management of the estate, where attention is paid to electric and magnetic energy fields, as well as to geobiological networks such as the Hartmann, Curry, Palm and Peyré networks. The buildings were designed with the help of a geobiologist, incorporating devices such as copper wires in the structural reinforcement and earth-connected sockets to eliminate harmful information. This approach aims to increase the vibratory system of the estate and to foster positive energies, both for the workers and for the wines.
Finally, lunar cycles rhythm the activities on the estate, both in the vineyards and in the cellars. Viticultural and winemaking work is planned in accordance with the lunar calendar, recognising the influence of the moon and the planets on the soils, the vines and the wines. The monthly and daily cycles of the lunar calendar are considered essential elements for respecting the laws of nature and maximising the vitality, energy and quality of the wines produced by the estate. All to produce delicious organic and biodynamic Champagne!
