History of A. Bergère Estate

The A. Bergère Champagne estate boasts a rich history spanning several generations. Founded by the Bergère family, the estate has evolved over the years through the passion and expertise passed down from one generation to the next. The commitment to quality and terroir expression has been the guiding principle in the estate's development over the decades.

The Bergère family's champagne journey began in 1949. Albert Bergère, the grandfather, initially embarked on vinifying and marketing his champagne under the name A. Bergère. Albert started a family, and subsequently, his youngest son, André, decided to take the reins of the family estate. André was accompanied by his wife, Brigitte Martin, who was already involved and significantly contributed to the passionate couple, especially in terms of expanding the vineyard and enriching the viticultural heritage.

Terroirs, Vines, and Winemaking

A. Bergère Estate sprawls across diverse terroirs of the Champagne region, offering a diversity reflected in the complexity of its wines. The vines are meticulously cultivated, often on the iconic limestone soils of the region. Environmentally friendly and sometimes biodynamic farming practices are implemented to preserve the vineyard's health.

Winemaking at A. Bergère Estate is meticulous, with particular attention paid to every stage of the process. Grapes, primarily Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier, are hand-harvested to ensure optimal quality. Modern and traditional techniques are harmoniously integrated to create balanced champagnes that reflect the unique character of each plot.

The Estate's Cuvées

  • Cuvée Origine: This iconic cuvée embodies the essence of A. Bergère Estate. Balanced and elegant, it offers fresh fruit aromas and subtle minerality. Perfect for celebrating special moments and grand occasions.
  • Cuvée Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut: Beautiful aromas of white flowers dominate the nose, followed by a hint of citrus, lemon, and grapefruit on the palate. A lovely structure, tension, and persistent freshness typical of the Côte de Blancs!
  • Cuvée Blanc de Blancs Brut Solera: This cuvée embodies the elegance and finesse of a champagne made exclusively from Chardonnay. Comprising 50% reserve wines carefully preserved since 2013, this champagne draws its character from distinctive terroirs like Fèrebrianges, Etoges, Congy in the Vallée du Petit Morin, near Montmirail in the Marne, and Sézanne in the Côte du Sézannais. Since 2013, A. Bergère has perfected its blend by combining 50% of wines from the current year with a unique Solera method. This technique involves the annual association of wines from different years, promoting evolution on lees and partial aging in oak barrels. Vines rooted in limestone soils add a distinctive dimension to terroir expression, reinforcing the estate's commitment to environmentally friendly viticulture. A golden robe, elegance throughout, a generous and indulgent nose with floral notes; this Champagne delivers beautiful smoothness on the palate, with subtle aromas of white fruits (white nectarine, vine peach). The Solera Blanc de Blancs Brut thus embodies the art of blending, a passion for terroir, and A. Bergère's constant pursuit of excellence.
  • Cuvée Prestige: A refined expression of terroir, this prestigious cuvée reveals the complexity and depth of estate characteristics. Meticulous blending and extended cellar aging contribute to its finesse and distinctive character.
  • Cuvée Rosé: This enticing cuvée expresses the subtle art of blending to create a vibrant rosé champagne. Notes of red fruits and elegant effervescence make it a charming choice for sparkling rosé enthusiasts.
  • Cuvée Millésimée: From the finest vintages, this cuvée highlights the exceptional nature of outstanding years. A characterful champagne, with depth and intensity developing with bottle aging.
