Jean Claude Bachelet

An estate at the pinnacle of Saint Aubin: Jean Claude Bachelet

Domaine Jean Claude Bachelet wines: purchase at the best price!

The Jean Claude Bachelet estate is located in the commune of Saint Aubin in Burgundy and extends over a vineyard of 10 hectares. Since the death of their father Jean Claude in February 2020, his 2 sons Jean Baptiste and Benoît have been running the Jean Claude Bachelet estate, always in continuity since their arrival at the estate dates back to the early 2000s. The Jean Claude Bachelet estate ranks at the top in the Saint Aubin appellation, but also in Chassagne Montrachet and Puligny Montrachet, where Villages and Premiers Crus of exceptional quality are produced, as well as a prodigious Bienvenues Bâtard Montrachet in Grand Cru.

Domaine Jean Claude Bachelet is primarily renowned for producing white Burgundies, although it also produces some red Burgundies. Vinification is as natural as possible and an 18-month aging in French oak barrels (during 2 winters) is carried out on fine lees, so that each wine evokes the terroir from which it originates, and thus brings the finesse, depth and structure necessary for an age-worthy wine. In the range offered, on the St Aubin appellation, 3 Premiers Crus dominate: St Aubin 1er Cru le Charmois, 1er cru les Murgers des Dents de Chien and 1er Cru En Remilly. In Puligny Montrachet, the simple Village Les Aubues is a wine of substance, fleshy, sapid, pure and concentrated with delicate brioche flavors, and constitutes an excellent entry-level wine. The Puligny Montrachet les Encégnières (located just below the famous Burgundy Grands Crus Batard Montrachet and Bienvenues Batard Montrachet) is pure, chiseled and lively, with notes of citron and grapefruit and restrained power. The Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru La Boudriotte is very mineral (wet stone) and reveals itself to be powerful and intense, with a long finish carried by bitterness on citrus zest. The Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Blanchot Dessus is one of the 2 flagships of Domaine Jean Claude Bachelet and may take longer to wait (7 to 10 years recommended) as it must digest its aging, so that it approaches the breed of a Grand Cru. On finesse, it presents textbook fruit and an intense finish. Sought after by all lovers of great white wines, finally comes the estate's only Grand Cru: the Bienvenues Batard Montrachet. This great white wine from Burgundy restores with charm and precision the power and finesse of such a terroir. Often characterized by pastry and very exotic aromas in warm vintages, it no longer fully expresses itself after a minimum aging of 7 to 10 years, and then demonstrates all the greatness one has the right to expect from the Grands Crus of Burgundy: amplitude, power, stimulating acidity, and exceptional length with a saline finish. In terms of vintages and generally for white Burgundies, the most renowned are: 1989, 1996, 1999, 2002, 2005, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. As you will have understood, Domaine Jean Claude Bachelet is to be recommended without moderation for all lovers of great white Burgundies.
