Champagne Jeaunaux-Robin is a small, committed estate located in Talus-Saint-Prix, in the picturesque Vallée du Petit Morin, on the border between the Côte des Blancs and the Côte de Sézanne. Founded by Michel and Marie-Claude Jeaunaux in 1964 and now run by Cyril Jeaunaux and his wife Clémence Robin (third generation), this family estate has been organically certified since the 2018 harvest and cultivates 8.7 hectares of vines on singular soils of clay-limestone mixed with flint and millstone. Meunier accounts for more than half of the plantings, complemented by Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Meticulous winemaking using indigenous yeasts, without seeking malolactic fermentation, combined with extended ageing, yields mineral and honest Champagnes that have been praised by discerning enthusiasts and recognised as one of the finest contemporary revelations in artisanal Champagne.
The history of Champagne Jeaunaux-Robin begins in 1964, when Michel and Marie-Claude Jeaunaux founded the estate at Talus-Saint-Prix, in the Vallée du Petit Morin, a singular area of Champagne located at the boundary of the Côte des Blancs and the Côte de Sézanne. For several decades, the couple carefully cultivated this small vineyard, patiently shaping the identity of the house.
In 2000, a qualitative turning point came when Cyril Jeaunaux took over the estate together with his wife Clémence Robin, thus giving the house its hyphenated name. Representing the third generation of winegrowers since the founding, the couple committed from 2006 to a resolutely environmentally respectful viticulture, abandoning synthetic products and favoring plowing and grass cover. This commitment led to organic farming certification in 2015, with the first certified organic harvest collected in 2018. Cyril is also a member of the Terres et Vins de Champagne association, a grouping of committed winegrowers (alongside Pascal Agrapart, Benoît Lahaye, and the Tarlants) who place terroir above all else. Their son Anselme, the youngest of their three children, hopes to take over the estate one day.
The Champagne Jeaunaux-Robin vineyard extends over 8.7 hectares in the Vallée du Petit Morin, on the borders of the Côte des Blancs and the Côte de Sézanne. The soils, of rare singularity in Champagne, are composed of clay-limestone mixed with millstone rocks and flint, geological remnants that were once crushed to make millstones, hence the name of the estate's emblematic cuvée, "Éclats de Meulière". This unique mineral signature is found in each of the cuvées, conferring upon the Champagnes a characteristic saline and smoky texture.
The grape variety composition reflects the identity of the terroir: 51% Meunier (the king grape of the valley, perfectly adapted to the late frosts of the Petit Morin), complemented by Pinot Noir and Chardonnay on carefully selected plots for each variety, chosen for their expression. The average age of the vines is 35 to 40 years, a guarantee of concentration and aromatic expression. The estate has been managed under certified organic farming since 2018, with soil work carried out by plowing, grass cover between the rows, and strict respect for biodiversity. Yields are deliberately kept low to deliver concentrated, healthy grapes that carry the full mineral signature of the terroir.
In the cellar, Cyril Jeaunaux practices artisanal winemaking of the highest standards, faithful to the respect of the grape and the terroir. The grapes are pressed by hand using a vertical Coquard press, a guarantee of gentle extraction and juices of great purity (a rare practice in Champagne). Alcoholic fermentations take place exclusively with indigenous yeasts naturally present on the berries, without any added yeasts, following a spontaneous fermentation approach that allows the terroirs to express themselves fully.
Malolactic fermentation is not sought, in order to preserve the freshness, verticality, and energy of the wines. Winemaking and aging take place approximately 75% in stainless steel tanks and 25% in used oak barrels (old ones, at least ten years), as Cyril never wishes the wood to mark the wine but rather to discreetly accompany the terroir. Aging on lees is extended (often a minimum of 30 months, sometimes longer), allowing the Champagnes to gain in complexity and integration. Dosages are deliberately low or zero (Extra-Brut, Brut Nature), with a clear, taut, and distinctive stylistic signature.
The Le Talus de Saint Prix Extra-Brut cuvée is the estate's emblematic signature, a tribute to the village of Talus-Saint-Prix where the vines are rooted. A blend of 60% Meunier, 30% Pinot Noir, and 10% Chardonnay on clay-limestone soils and millstone rocks. Winemaking 75% in stainless steel tanks and 25% in barrels, without malolactic fermentation, extended aging of 30 months, moderate dosage at 5.5 g/l. Brilliant pale yellow robe, elegant nose of buttered bread and brioche, fresh and structured palate, aromas of pastries, perfect balance between mineral tension and roundness.
The Éclats de Meulière cuvée is an author's cuvée dedicated to the unique mineral signature of the Talus-Saint-Prix terroir. The name evokes the millstone rocks (flint) that populate the soils. A predominantly Meunier blend aged partly in old oak barrels, delivering a Champagne of striking smoky minerality, with a saline texture and a long, taut finish. A true reading of the terroir.
The Instinct Meunier Brut Nature cuvée is a pure expression of Pinot Meunier in non-dosé form, with no added dosage. Vinified from the finest Meunier plots, it reveals the full depth, aromatic richness, and singularity of this often underestimated grape variety. A taut, mouth-watering palate, marked by ripe yellow fruits, brioche notes, and a characteristic chalky finish.
The Les Marnes Blanches cuvée is the estate's 100% Chardonnay cuvée, crafted from plots planted on the chalkiest soils. Vinified with rigor, it delivers a Blanc de Blancs of remarkable chalky minerality, with a taut acidity and an assertive verticality, demonstrating that Chardonnay flourishes superbly on these atypical terroirs of the Vallée du Petit Morin.
The Fil de Brûme Brut Nature cuvée is a prestige cuvée crafted from an atypical blend of 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir, with no dosage. A patinated gold robe, bubble of great vivacity and persistence, mousse-like and fine, a saline, deep, and complex expression of an uncompromising Champagne.
The Rosé de Saignée cuvée is crafted 100% from Pinot Meunier vinified by the saignée method, a technique that consists of briefly macerating the grapes before drawing off the rosé juice. Without seeking great vinosity or excessive power, this cuvée seduces with its crunchy fruit, aromatic precision, and elegant pale pink robe. An authentic and distinctive rosé.
The Brut Prestige cuvée is a more accessible yet high-quality expression, crafted from a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir (70 to 80%) with a low dosage. A superb nose with brioche notes and discreet fruit (redcurrant), a smooth and light palate with fine bubbles and a lovely length. An excellent aperitif cuvée with a remarkable quality-to-price ratio, also available in magnum.
The Cuvées Millésimées of the estate represent the most prestigious expressions, crafted only in the greatest years when the quality of the harvest allows. Vinified from the most exceptional plots, aged for several years on lees, they deliver deep and singular Champagnes, absolute testimonies of the terroir and the vintage.
