Didier Dagueneau Clos du Calvaire 2020, a Pouilly-Fumé Sauvignon Blanc, comes from chalky, siliceous soils. Aromas of lemon, flint and broom lead to a mineral, vibrant and persistent palate. Perfect with shellfish or fish, it can be cellared for 8 to 12 years.
The heir to an exacting pursuit in the Loire Valley, this estate embodies a rare union of winemaking tradition and technical daring.
- Terroir: Kimmeridgian marl and flint soils in the Pouilly-Fumé appellation, where the Loire shapes wines with vibrant minerality.
- Winemaking: A low-intervention approach and barrel aging reveal the purity of the Sauvignon Blanc without embellishment.
Tasting notes for Didier Dagueneau Clos du Calvaire 2020
Appearance: Pale gold with green highlights, crystal clarity and an almost silky texture in the light.
On the nose: Aromas of fresh lime, cut boxwood and ripe white peach, followed by a saline touch reminiscent of Loire spray, then opening onto deep, chalky minerality.
On the palate: A lively, precise opening, carried by taut acidity that unfolds notes of struck flint and yellow fruit, leading to a long, saline finish balancing tension and elegance.
Serve between 10 and 12°C in a Burgundy-style white wine glass to appreciate its full complexity.
