Domaine des Tours Merlot 2010: A Unique Expression of Merlot in the Rhône Valley
The Domaine des Tours Merlot 2010 is a distinctive cuvée crafted by Emmanuel Reynaud, the renowned Rhône winemaker behind the legendary Château Rayas, Château de Fonsalette, and Château des Tours. This wine perfectly embodies his approach to Merlot, a grape rarely found in the region, yet under his care, it reveals a delicate, ethereal, and deeply aromatic character.
Made from 100% Merlot, grown on clay-limestone soils under the influence of the Mediterranean climate, this wine diverges from the classic Bordeaux style, offering a fresher and more refined interpretation of the varietal.
Its garnet-hued robe with hints of brick reflects its evolution. The nose is complex and expressive, with aromas of stewed red fruits, plum, forest floor, and sweet spices, complemented by notes of cocoa and blond tobacco. On the palate, the attack is smooth and velvety, with soft, integrated tannins and remarkable freshness, leading to a long, subtly liquorice-tinged finish.
This Rhône-style Merlot pairs beautifully with slow-cooked lamb shoulder, wild mushroom risotto, or aged soft cheeses. A rare and intriguing wine, ready to enjoy now for its graceful maturity or to cellar for even greater complexity.
