Located at the heart of Gevrey-Chambertin, Domaine René Bouvier is a family estate founded in 1910 by Henri Bouvier and led since 1992 by Bernard Bouvier, the third generation of winemakers. Spanning 30 hectares located exclusively in the Côte de Nuits, from Marsannay to Vosne-Romanée, the estate offers around twenty appellations and nearly 26 cuvées drawn from a mosaic of climates where Pinot Noir and Chardonnay express themselves with finesse. Hand harvesting, organic viticulture, patient ageing in barrels, demi-muids and concrete eggs: each wine reflects a precise interpretation of the terroir and the elegant signature of a winemaker passionate about Burgundian climates.
The story of Domaine René Bouvier begins in 1910, when Henri Bouvier laid the foundations of this family estate in the historic area of the ancient terroirs of the Dukes of Burgundy, on the outskirts of Dijon. His son René, and then his grandson Bernard — who took over the estate in 1992 — patiently expanded and reshaped the vineyard, growing it from a small village-level structure into a major domaine on the Côte de Nuits, now spanning 30 hectares. Bernard Bouvier has gradually established himself as one of the essential references in Marsannay and Gevrey-Chambertin, actively contributing to the recognition of the climats of the Marsannay appellation.
In 2006, the estate inaugurated a new, modern, and fully equipped winery in Gevrey-Chambertin, allowing for longer aging and a greater variety of vessels. The conversion to organic farming began in 2009, with certification obtained in 2013, reflecting a lasting commitment to soil preservation and biodiversity. Bernard Bouvier also steered the estate back toward a purer, more infused, less extracted style, making the wines of Domaine René Bouvier sought-after references among lovers of great Burgundy wines worldwide.
The 30 hectares of Domaine René Bouvier are spread across six emblematic villages of the Côte de Nuits, primarily Marsannay, Fixin, and Gevrey-Chambertin, with forays into Morey-Saint-Denis, Chambolle-Musigny, and Vosne-Romanée. The vineyard comprises 23 hectares of red varieties planted with Pinot Noir and 7 hectares of white varieties planted with Chardonnay and Aligoté, including a 3-hectare monopole of white Marsannay — the celebrated climat "Le Clos". The diversity of soils, sometimes clay, sometimes limestone, sometimes sandy or yellowish as in Clos du Roy, offers an extraordinarily rich palette of expressions for a single estate.
Bernard Bouvier pays particular attention to the notion of climat and has developed numerous single-parcel cuvées to reveal the mosaic of terroirs: Champ Salomon in Couchey, En Ouzeloy near Longeroies, Clos du Roy in Chenôve, La Morisotte, and Le Finage as a blend. The most emblematic vines are found in the Racine du Temps cuvée in Gevrey-Chambertin, sourced from very old vines sometimes over a century old, as well as in Champ Salomon, planted with a massal selection of pinot fin on just 0.50 hectares. Vineyard work combines bud removal, green harvesting, natural cover cropping, soil tillage, herbal teas, and compost, in strict respect for living ecosystems.
At Domaine René Bouvier, winemaking is conceived as a natural extension of work in the vineyard. The grapes are harvested entirely by hand, then sorted on two sorting tables that allow only perfectly healthy and ripe berries to pass through. Since 2010, Bernard Bouvier has incorporated whole-cluster fermentation into his cuvées, on average at 50%, which brings greater tension, floral aromas, and complexity to the wines. Fermentations are carried out using only the estate's indigenous yeasts, in a spirit of infusion rather than extraction, in order to preserve the purity of the fruit and the aromatic signature of each climat.
Aging takes place in the cellar in carefully chosen vessels: traditional barrels, 600-liter demi-muids, and concrete eggs, with a moderate proportion of new oak ranging from 20 to 30% depending on the cuvée (up to 50% for Charmes-Chambertin). The white wines are also aged in demi-muids, which lends them balance, volume, and minerality. This measured and precise approach produces pure, open, and flavorful wines in which the tannic structure remains finely tamed and the terroir expresses itself without a mask.
Bourgogne Aligoté Vieilles Vignes: an introductory cuvée sourced from old Aligoté vines — fresh, lively, and marked by a beautiful minerality — also available in a no-added-sulfur version for natural wine enthusiasts.
Bourgogne Chardonnay: an accessible and precise white, partly aged in barrel, that already reveals the estate's stylistic signature through notes of citrus and white flowers.
Bourgogne Pinot Noir: an indulgent, fruity, and delicate entry-level red — a perfect illustration of the estate's Burgundian expertise at an accessible price.
Bourgogne Montre-Cul: a rare cuvée from a historic climat on the Dijon hillsides, this evocatively named Pinot Noir offers crunchy fruitiness and delightful drinkability.
Côte-de-Nuits Villages: a cuvée from a parcel located in Brochon, expressing the character of the Côte de Nuits with finesse and depth.
Marsannay Le Clos Monopole (white): a 3-hectare monopole planted with Chardonnay behind the village of Couchey, this is the estate's only white Marsannay, aged in demi-muids — ample and mineral — also available in a no-added-sulfur version.
Marsannay Clos du Roy (white): a Chardonnay sourced from yellowish, almost sandy soils, this rare white wine stands out for its tension, purity, and remarkable aging potential.
Marsannay Le Finage: a blend of several lieux-dits (La Morisotte, En Combereau, Ouzeloy, Clos du Roy, Le Petit Puits, Es Chezots, and Les Étalles), offering a complete and harmonious expression of the appellation.
Marsannay En Ouzeloy: neighboring Longeroies, this nearly flat parcel with stony soils yields a Pinot Noir of pure finesse and minerality, with an airy signature very different from that of Longeroies.
Marsannay Champ Salomon: sourced from a 0.50-hectare parcel of old pinot fin vines under massal selection in Couchey, this emblematic cuvée stands out for its volume, structure, and refinement, vinified largely with whole clusters.
Marsannay Longeroies Vieilles Vignes: the estate's star cuvée, sourced from deep, clay-rich soils with a southern exposure, this Pinot Noir is often compared to a Premier Cru for its depth, vibrant fruitiness, and balance. A Longeroies Sans Soufre version is also bottled.
Marsannay Clos du Roy Vieilles Vignes (red): considered by Bernard Bouvier to be the pinnacle of the Marsannay appellation, this climat classified by Dr. Lavalle as early as 1855 produces a wine built for aging — structured, with a saline minerality — that requires several years of cellaring before revealing its full nobility.
Fixin Crais de Chêne: a magnificent expression of Fixin sourced from vines planted on limestone scree, this fleshy and taut wine combines power and freshness. Also available in a Sans Soufre version.
Morey-Saint-Denis En la Rue de Vergy: a rare village cuvée from a climat situated at altitude, behind Morey, producing a fresh, elegant Pinot Noir with a slender mineral backbone and generous aging potential.
Gevrey-Chambertin (village): a careful blend of different terroirs (clay, limestone, scree) that offers a complete and faithful expression of the appellation — savory and well-balanced.
Gevrey-Chambertin La Justice: an emblematic lieu-dit on the Gevrey plain, this charming wine is characterized by its indulgent fruitiness and velvety tannins.

Gevrey-Chambertin Racine du Temps Très Vieilles Vignes: an exceptional cuvée sourced from vines sometimes over a century old, this is one of the pinnacles of the village range — deep, complex, with floral aromas, crushed fruit, and a long, noble finish.
Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes: a Pinot Noir of the silky finesse characteristic of the appellation, marked by floral notes and small red fruits, with a delicate texture.
Vosne-Romanée: the estate's only village wine in this mythical appellation, this wine combines power and velvetiness in the deep, spiced style characteristic of Vosne.

Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers: a Premier Cru of pure grace and delicacy, with a luminous color and a silky, elegant palate — a quintessential embodiment of the Chambolle style.
Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Fontenys: a Premier Cru situated immediately adjacent to the Grands Crus Ruchottes-Chambertin and Mazis-Chambertin, this wine combines power, fine tannic structure, and great aromatic complexity.
