The Guigal Ermitage Ex Voto 2005, sourced from old-vine Syrah from Hermitage, is aged 42 months in new oak barrels. It reveals aromas of raspberry, liquorice and spices, enhanced by a chalky minerality. On the palate, it combines power and elegance with silky tannins. Best enjoyed after 4 to 5 years, it can be cellared for 30 to 40 years and pairs wonderfully with game or truffles.
A family house rooted in the mythical hillsides of the Rhône, E. Guigal perpetuates a winemaking heritage where precision and respect for the terroir guide every cuvée.
- Terroir: The plots of Hermitage, set on granitic and schistous soils, lend the Syrah a chalky minerality and a unique depth.
- Vinification: Extended aging in new oak barrels, for an expression that is both powerful and elegant, where the fruit mingles with toasted notes without ever dominating.
Tasting notes for E. Guigal Ermitage Ex Voto 2005
To the eye: A deep red robe with garnet highlights, of a silky density.
On the nose: First, fresh aromas of black raspberry and wild blackberry, followed by deeper notes of liquorice, soft spices and charcoal, all underlined by a mineral hint reminiscent of gunflint.
On the palate: An ample and velvety texture, supported by a lively acidity and a chalky minerality that brings tension and length; the finish, of classic purity, leaves lingering nuances of cocoa and blonde tobacco.
Serve at 16–18°C in a Burgundy-style red wine glass to release its full complexity.
