The Guigal Ermitage Ex Voto 2001, a Syrah from the granitic hillsides of Hermitage, is a rare cuvée aged 42 months in new barrels. From the l'Hermite and Les Bessards plots, it offers liquorice, blackcurrant and smoke, a structured palate and a mineral finish. Ideal with red meats or aged cheeses.
A cornerstone of the Rhône Valley, Domaine Guigal has embodied family rigor and a deep-rooted connection to the great Rhodanian terroirs for three generations.
- Terroir: Granitic and schistose soils of the Hermitage appellation, where Syrah expresses its minerality and depth.
- Vinification: Rigorous plot selection, extended aging in new barrels for a structure that is both powerful and elegant.
Tasting notes for Guigal Ermitage Ex Voto 2001
To the eye: An intense purple robe with dense, almost opaque hues, revealing a generous substance and a silky texture.
On the nose: Aromas of ripe blackcurrant cream, dark liquorice, fine smoke and damp undergrowth, lifted by a saline touch and a hint of graphite.
On the palate: A full and fleshy attack, supported by a lively acidity and a chalky minerality, with firm yet velvety tannins, and a long, taut finish.
Serve at 16–18 °C in a Burgundy-style red wine glass to release its complex aromas.
