The Guigal Hermitage 1989, a pure Syrah from the clay-limestone slopes of Hermitage, offers an intense robe and aromas of spices, blackcurrant, and liquorice after 36 months in oak barrels. On the palate, precise tannins and a mineral finish. To be enjoyed until 2007 with game or aged cheeses.
An emblematic family estate of the Rhône Valley, E. Guigal has perpetuated a heritage of viticultural excellence since 1946, rooted in the finest northern terroirs.
- Terroir: The steep slopes of Hermitage, where clay-limestone soils and sandy gravels shape Syrahs of rare minerality and unique depth.
- Vinification: A controlled fermentation and a patient aging of 36 months in French oak barrels, for cuvées of precise structure and harmonious oak influence.
Tasting notes for Guigal Hermitage 1989 wine
To the eye – A deep red robe with violet reflections, dense and silky, heralding a generous substance and an evolution patinated by time.
On the nose – First, fresh aromas of ripe red berries, then deeper notes of gentle spices, toasted vanilla, and a mineral touch of graphite, lifted by a saline hint.
On the palate – A broad and velvety texture, carried by a lively acidity and a still-present tannic structure, where blackcurrant, liquorice, and a long, spiced and chalky finish intertwine.
Serve at 16–18 °C in a Bordeaux-style red wine glass to release all the complexity of this great vintage.

- Aging potential: At its peak between 1992 and 2007, this wine can still improve further in a cool, dark cellar, for lovers of bottles with an elegant patina.
