The TOP winemakers of Loire

Initially, the vines were leased, then Lise and Bertrand decided to acquire them in 2011. The couple divides the tasks, with Bertrand working in the vineyard and cellar, while Lise mainly handles the marketing and management of Domaine Jousset. Assisted by 2 employees, Lise and Bertrand gradually stabilized the vineyard area at around 8 hectares, particularly by concentrating the perimeter of their 18 plots planted mainly with Chenin, but also Chardonnay, Grolleau and Gamay. Domaine Lise and Bertrand Jousset has been certified organic since 2008, eliminating all herbicides and pesticides, as well as fertilizers. The estate is moving towards biodynamics, and in the cellar, the work is also very natural and minimally interventionist, with parcel-based vinifications. The reds undergo carbonic maceration that optimizes the freshness of the wines as well as their fruitiness. Aging is carried out in barrels, but with a very low proportion of new wood (maximum 10%), in order not to mask the natural character of the wines that each express their terroir. Lise and Bertrand Jousset produce about a dozen cuvées, reflecting the diversity of their terroirs. Frank, generous and indulgent wines, yet with formidable precision, blending freshness and complexity. The Montlouis Premier Rendez-vous cuvée comes from 8 different plots, with clay and flint soils, on limestone bedrock. It is vinified in barrels for 10 months. On tasting, one discovers a fruity and juicy wine, delicious and indulgent. Well-suited to white meats or goat cheese. A Premier Rendez-Vous Version Longue cuvée is offered, fuller-bodied thanks to 12 months of aging, and unfiltered; it will be exquisite with fine noble fish. The Montlouis Trait d'Union cuvée comes from a plot of vines aged about 70 years, and represents a semi-dry wine containing approximately 24 grams of residual sugar, from overripe grapes, sorted on the vine. Benefiting from barrel aging, this sweet wine has beautiful volume and will accompany with sweetness and pleasure foie gras preparations or aged goat cheeses. The Montlouis Clos aux Renards comes from the oldest parcel of old vines (some of which are almost a hundred years old). Here the 1.5 hectares of this plot are worked with horses, and yields are minimal (about 20 hl/Ha). This cuvée with the appearance of a great white Loire destined for the finest gastronomic pairings, exhales fruity and exotic aromas, and noble floral notes of acacia blossom. The palate is at once fresh, dense and fruity, yet with beautiful smoothness, and very long finish. It can be kept for at least 8 years.
