- Terroir: clay-limestone slopes, south-facing – a mineral setting that gives the wines their tension and depth.
- Vinification: aging in oak barrels, respect for natural balances, for cuvées that are both powerful and of a rare elegance.
Tasting notes for Château Ausone 1986
To the eye: a garnet robe with tawny reflections, dense and slightly veiled by time, revealing a silky texture and a generous matter.
On the nose: aromas of candied blackcurrant intertwine with notes of cedar, black truffle and a touch of graphite, carried by a chalky minerality that evokes the limestone subsoils of Saint-Émilion.
On the palate: a velvety, almost unctuous attack, sustained by a lively acidity and a still-present tannic structure, before a saline and remarkably long finish where notes of tobacco and soft spices unfold.
Serve between 16 and 18°C in a Bordeaux glass to release its full complexity.

A vintage marked by slow maturity and a rare balance, where the coolness of the nights preserved the acidity and the tension of the tannins.
- Aging potential: still at its peak for the next 10 to 15 years, to be stored in a cool cellar (12-14°C) away from light.
