From century-old vines (1907–1917), the Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes 2018 from Domaine Denis Bachelet reveals a clay-limestone terroir. This Pinot Noir, aged in barrels, combines redcurrant and spices with a silky, mineral palate. A wine for ageing (through to 2050), perfect with game.
A family estate rooted in the heart of Gevrey-Chambertin, where time seems suspended between tradition and precision.
- Terroir: clay-limestone soils of the Côte de Nuits, the cradle of Burgundy's most iconic Grand Crus, shaping wines of rare minerality and depth.
- Vinification: an artisanal approach, where human intervention is kept to a minimum – full destemming, indigenous yeasts and ageing in French oak barrels to reveal the purity of the Pinot Noir.
Tasting notes for Domaine Denis Bachelet Charmes-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2018
To the eye: a deep ruby robe with garnet highlights, of silky density and crystalline brilliance.
On the nose: a bouquet blending fresh red currant, ripe plum and a touch of blackcurrant, before a chalky note and a subtle saltiness come to envelop the whole.
On the palate: a velvety texture, carried by a lively acidity and taut minerality, stretching into a long and persistent finish where hints of undergrowth and gentle spices reveal themselves.
Serve between 14 and 16°C in a Burgundy glass to fully express its complexity.
2018 Vintage
A generous vintage, shaped by a hot and sunny summer, where the ripeness of the grapes combined with preserved freshness to yield wines that are both full-bodied and well-balanced.
- Ageing potential: to be enjoyed through to 2050, provided it is stored under optimal conditions – a cool cellar, away from light and temperature fluctuations.
