Nestled in the heart of the Saint-Julien appellation, this historic estate has embodied Bordeaux excellence since the 18th century, combining family tradition and viticultural rigour.
- Terroir: Garonne gravels with gravelly and clay-limestone soils, lending the wines a mineral structure and the elegance typical of Saint-Julien.
- Vinification: Aged in oak barrels, respecting natural balance and seeking a pure expression of the terroir.
Tasting notes for Château Gruaud Larose 1981
To the eye: Garnet robe with tawny highlights, of silky density and a still-vivid brilliance despite the decades.
On the nose: Aromas of wild blackberry and candied blackcurrant intertwine with notes of blonde tobacco, damp cedar and a saline touch reminiscent of undergrowth after rain.
On the palate: Velvety and taut texture, carried by precise acidity and chalky minerality, with a long finish where aged leather and gentle spices intertwine.
Serve at 16–18°C in a Bordeaux glass to fully release its complexity.
