Louis Jadot, a major Burgundy estate of great stature

Wines from the Louis Jadot estate: buy at the best price

The Louis Jadot estate is located in Beaune and was founded in 1859. Its management was entrusted in 1962 to André Gagey, and since 1992 to his son Pierre Henry Gagey, though the Jadot estate was in the meantime acquired by the Kopf sisters (also owners of Kobrand, a major wine distributor across the Atlantic). The Jadot house (négociant) possesses a particularly significant vineyard heritage: the Louis Jadot estate first and foremost with 78 hectares in the Côte d'Or, including prestigious parcels in Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses, the exceptionally rare Musigny, Chambertin Clos de Bèze, Clos Vougeot, Corton Grèves, Echézeaux, Vosne Romanée 1er Cru Malconsorts and Suchots...

Louis Jadot also encompasses 84 hectares in Beaujolais (including notably Château des Jacques); the Domaine des Héritiers Jadot, 16 hectares, with superb plots in Chevalier Montrachet and Corton Charlemagne; Domaine Gagey, 25 hectares, with the grand cru Clos Saint Denis, Beaune 1ER Cru, Puligny Montrachet 1ER Cru and also the 5 hectares of Domaine du Duc de Magenta, comprising a Chassagne Montrachet 1ER Cru Morgeot as well as a Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de La Garenne. The most recent acquisition dates from 2008, with the takeover of Domaine Ferret: 18 hectares in the Pouilly Fuissé appellation.

Frédéric Barnier has been overseeing the winemaking since 2012 and the white Burgundies are fermented directly in barrels and aged on lees (bâtonnage) for 12 to 20 months. They have a very straight and precise profile. The red Burgundies are destemmed, not crushed, with a vatting period of around 25 days before beginning their ageing of 12 to 22 months in barrels, one third of which are new. The reds prove to be consistent and display beautiful potential, such as the Gevrey Chambertin 1er cru Estournelles St Jacques 2014, superb in finesse and distinction, or the celebrated grand cru Bonnes Mares 2014 with its velvety and distinguished tannic structure, coupled with textbook balance. A great fine wine for ageing. Consistency being one of Jadot's greatest strengths and excellent tasting notes being awarded by critics to the wines of Domaine Jadot, we can therefore recommend them for purchase.
