Forts de Latour 1984
Forts de Latour 1984, the second wine of Château Latour, originates from the gravelly ridges of Pauillac. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (75%) and Merlot, it captivates with its aromas of dark fruits and spices, refined in barrels. Precise tannins and mineral freshness pair beautifully with duck breast or a truffle egg.
Château Latour
A historic estate in Pauillac, rooted in the Médoc since the 17th century, Château Latour embodies the excellence of Bordeaux wines through its viticultural heritage and exceptional terroir.
- Terroir: Gravelly ridges over deep clay subsoil, on the banks of the Gironde estuary, conferring a distinctive minerality and precise tannic structure to the wines.
- Vinification: Parcel-by-parcel method and ageing in French oak barrels, combining tradition and rigour for cuvées of rare elegance and long ageing potential.
Tasting notes for Château Latour Forts de Latour 1984
To the eye: A garnet red robe with tawny reflections, of silky density, already betraying the maturity and complexity acquired over the decades.
On the nose: A generous bouquet where candied dark fruits, liquorice notes, a touch of damp undergrowth and a mineral hint of graphite intertwine, all enveloped in a subtle cedar smoke.
On the palate: A velvety yet taut texture, carried by a lively acidity and chalky minerality, while the tannins, still present, stretch into a long, saline finish marked by soft spices and a hint of truffle.
Serve at 16–18°C in a Bordeaux glass to fully release its aromas.
Vintage 1984
A vintage marked by slow maturation and classic balance, where freshness and tannic structure reveal themselves over time, offering today a refined and nuanced expression.
- Ageing potential: This wine, already at its peak, can still be cellared for 5 to 10 years at a stable temperature (12–14°C), away from light.
