The Château Gazin 2004, from Pomerol, expresses its clay-gravel terroir beautifully. A blend of Merlot (85%) and Cabernet, it seduces with aromas of dark fruits, spices and cedar, refined in barrels. On the palate, silky and mineral, it pairs with meats and cheeses through 2034.
Château Gazin
A family estate rooted in the heart of Pomerol, Château Gazin embodies the quiet elegance of an exceptional terroir, shaped by generations of expertise.
– Terroir: 26 hectares of Günzian gravel over blue and green clay, rich in iron oxides – a unique soil that gives the wines their deep minerality and velvety structure.
– Vinification: Fermentation in concrete tanks, extended maceration and aging in oak barrels (50% new), for a precise yet generous expression of the dominant Merlot.
Tasting notes for Château Gazin 2004
To the eye – A garnet red robe with tawny highlights, of silky density, already betraying the maturity and complexity of time.
On the nose – First, aromas of black cherry and candied plum, followed by hints of cedar and blonde tobacco, before opening up to deeper notes of aged leather and black truffle, all lifted by a subtle mineral salinity.
On the palate – A full, velvety texture, carried by a lively acidity and a tannic structure that is still present but well integrated, extending into a long, spiced finish where liquorice and black pepper intertwine.
Serve at 16–18°C in a Bordeaux glass to reveal its full finesse.
2004 Vintage
A well-balanced vintage, marked by the harmonious ripeness of the grapes, offering today a Pomerol that is both structured and approachable.
– Ageing potential: Enjoy now, after decanting, or cellar until 2030 under optimal conditions (stable temperature, controlled humidity).
